About Aerospacelab

Aerospacelab designs and manufactures small satellites combined with earth observation services. Since 2018, the company has grown to over 300 full-time employees across offices in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium), Toulouse (France), Lausanne (Switzerland), and the US West Coast. The team spans hardware design, software development, and data science.

Role overview

  • Design and analyze satellite antenna systems, including direct radiating array (DRA) antennas, reflector antennas and array fed reflector antennas
  • Support all aspects of the development chain: requirements, architecture, design, manufacturing, integration, test, operations
  • Work with various teams (mechanical, electrical, software, thermal)
  • Support design reviews to ensure requirements and interface compliance
  • Work closely with external antenna providers to write specifications, review designs, identify and resolve issues, and develop integration and test approaches
  • Develop test plans that ensure adequate testing of units and the complete system
  • Execute in-lab testing and on-orbit performance validation, using advanced RF measurement tools (network analyzers, anechoic chambers)

Must have

  • MSc or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunication Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • 3+ years of experience in antennas for space
  • Hands-on experience with telecom satellite antenna hardware
  • Ability to be an individual contributor on technical definition, including:
    • Antenna analysis with relevant tools (Satsoft, GRASP, etc.)
    • Definition of antenna solutions, including antenna type (reflector, DRA, array fed reflector, etc.), appropriate geometry, performance
    • Interference analysis
    • Antenna performance analysis and simulation
    • Antenna sizing
    • Antenna performance budgets
    • Antenna hardware specification definition
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously across teams and company to drive multi-disciplinary projects to completion
  • Good communication skills
  • Fluency in English

Nice to have

  • A passion for technology and rapid execution of sophisticated space missions
  • Intimate knowledge and connection with key suppliers of antenna payload hardware
  • Knowledge of legacy customer architectures at deep technical level
  • Experience in frequency coordination (ITU, FCC)
  • Experience working on telecommunication satellite constellations
  • Knowledge of software-defined radios (SDR) and digital signal processing (DSP)
