About Aerospacelab

Aerospacelab designs and manufactures small satellites combined with earth observation services. Since 2018, the company has grown to over 350 full-time employees across offices in Louvain-la-Neuve (Belgium), Toulouse (France), Lausanne (Switzerland), and the US West Coast.

Role Overview

You will join an agile development team focused on a specific satellite unit. Aerospacelab designs modular satellite units including on-board computers, radios, cameras, optical transceivers, network switches, sensors, and actuators. You will develop the embedded software that runs on these units.

You will work closely with electrical engineers and FPGA engineers, and depending on the project, with RF, AOCS, optical, or network specialists. Work happens in short cycles with rapid feedback once code reaches orbit.

Key Activities

  • Design and build unit firmware and high-level satellite applications in close collaboration with hardware and system engineers
  • Produce high-quality flight software components following Aerospacelab's development flow: requirements engineering, design, implementation, testing, and maintenance
  • Support definition of satellite system architecture

Must Have

  • BSc, MSc, or PhD degree in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
  • Experience with C and Python programming languages
  • Experience developing embedded software in Linux environment
  • Experience with real-time operating systems, preferably FreeRTOS
  • Strong skills in debugging, optimizing, and unit testing
  • Experience with full cycle software development
  • Ability to read and understand schematics and layouts
  • Experience working with digital hardware (flashers, JTAG, oscilloscope, etc.)
  • Familiarity with some of: Buildroot, UBoot, Zynq, cmake, CAN, I2C, SPI, UART, SPW
  • Good communication skills and English knowledge

Nice to Have

  • Experience in the space sector, including satellite subsystems, operations, and embedded flight software development
  • Experience with ECSS/CCSDS standards (ECSS-E-ST-70-41A, CCSDS 133.0-B-1 Space Packet Protocol, etc.)
