Role overview

As a Satellite Systems Engineer, you will lead the technical development of satellites and platforms from early concepts to in-orbit deployment. Working closely with project managers, you will find technical solutions that are simultaneously faster, better, and cheaper by leveraging Aerospacelab's vertical integration and mass-manufacturing capabilities.

You can specialise in one of three mission types:

  • In-Orbit Demonstrator development for first-time satellite customers, primarily Earth-Observation missions
  • Constellation-scale development for established operators, primarily Telecommunication missions
  • In-orbit follow-up of flying missions to feed flight data back into platform and unit design

Duties

  • Define overall architecture and satellite design meeting mission objectives, including system requirements, budgets, subsystem selection, trade-offs and integration
  • Manage technical risks proactively and pragmatically
  • Act as chief engineer, coordinating satellite development across subsystems and domains, ensuring system consistency and information sharing
  • Work with internal unit development teams to improve overall industrial efficiency
  • Support test procedures, integration, test campaigns, launch and in-orbit commissioning
  • Support project management including customer interface, configuration management and development plans

Requirements

  • At least 8 years professional experience in satellite engineering, either as a systems engineer or in a discipline requiring full-system understanding (AOCS, Mechanical/Structural, Thermal, Power or Avionics)
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
  • Strong organizational abilities
  • Problem-solving mindset with ability to make technical decisions despite incomplete information and risk
  • Willingness to challenge the European space industry status quo

  • Experience with telecom payloads
  • Hands-on satellite assembly, integration and test campaign experience
