Director of RF Hardware Engineering Verified today
About AnySignal
AnySignal is developing next-generation RF products and services for space and defense missions. We're building a flexible, high-performance platform for advanced radio technologies.
The Role
You will lead the RF engineering team building the RF hardware at the center of our space radios. Reporting to the VP of RF and Digital, you own execution across the RF engineering organization: delivery, quality, technical direction, and the people.
This role requires technical credibility. Our RF team includes experienced engineers with flight hardware experience, and they will follow a leader whose technical judgment they respect. You will participate in schematic reviews, architecture debates, and failure investigations. This is not a pure program management or people-management role.
What You'll Do
- Lead the RF engineering team across concurrent radio programs, including hardware engineers, senior ICs, and leads reporting to you.
- Own delivery: scope, schedule, resourcing, and prioritization with clear-eyed assessment of team commitments.
- Make technical decisions for RF hardware architecture and implementation trades; arbitrate disputes and hold the design bar in reviews.
- Own the health of design review, verification, and documentation processes with appropriate rigor for on-orbit hardware.
- Partner across FPGA, DSP, embedded software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, test, and supply chain to ensure RF decisions integrate well.
- Own hiring, leveling, performance, and career development for the team; build bench strength and retain top performers.
- Represent RF engineering technically with customers, primes, and partners in government program contexts.
- Drive transition from heroics to repeatability: NPI discipline, test infrastructure, and design reuse across products.
Required
- 10+ years in RF or hardware engineering, including 4+ years leading engineering teams.
- Direct experience managing senior individual contributors and other leads or managers, with a track record of retention.
- Deep personal RF background: you have designed RF hardware and can hold your own in detailed design reviews on noise figure, linearity, frequency planning, and layout.
- Demonstrated leadership in demanding hardware environments: space, defense, or comparably high-consequence programs with real delivery pressure.
- Breadth across hardware beyond RF: digital and high-speed design, power, FPGA interfaces, mechanical and thermal constraints, manufacturability.
- Record of hiring senior engineers and raising a team's technical standard.
- Judgment about when to decide, delegate, and escalate without becoming a bottleneck.
Desired
- Flight hardware programs delivered under your leadership, from design through on-orbit operation.
- Experience scaling an engineering team through rapid growth.
- Familiarity with software-defined radio architectures and modern converter-centric designs.
- Experience interfacing with government customers and prime contractors on technical matters.
- Background introducing process into a fast-moving team in a way the team adopted rather than resented.
Compensation and Benefits
Base salary: $225,000-$275,000 per year, plus equity. Total compensation includes equity grant, medical, dental, vision, HSA, and 401K.
U.S. Person Requirement
To comply with ITAR and U.S. space technology export rules, you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident, protected individual under 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to secure necessary authorization from the U.S. Department of State.
