About the role
AST SpaceMobile is building SpaceMobile, a space-based cellular broadband network accessible by standard smartphones, delivering 4G/5G connectivity globally. Join the Software Validation and Testing team as an Associate Electrical Software Test Engineer.
You will support execution, validation, and verification of software and hardware systems at component-level and integrated system test environments. Working with software developers, systems engineers, electrical engineers, and integration teams, you will ensure software functionality, reliability, and performance throughout the development lifecycle.
What you will do
- Execute component-level, subsystem-level, and integrated system testing activities
- Document test execution results, perform data analysis, and generate test reports for stakeholders
- Investigate and resolve test failures, anomalies, and unexpected system behaviors
- Support development of test plans, procedures, scripts, and validation methodologies
- Serve as on-site electrical engineering resource during test campaigns and system validation
- Operate electrical ground support equipment (EGSE) and laboratory equipment safely
- Track deliverables, testing milestones, and action items
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on integrated testing and issue resolution
- Verify and validate compliance with system and software requirements
- Set up, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot test environments
- Participate in continuous improvement of test processes and documentation
- Support engineering standards and best practices adherence
Experience and qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, or related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience)
- Experience supporting software validation, hardware testing, laboratory operations, or engineering development
- Experience with software development, integration, or testing environments
- Experience using laboratory test equipment and performing electrical measurements
Preferred:
- Software scripting, troubleshooting, or test automation
- Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) and Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing concepts
- Integrated hardware and software test environments
- Systems engineering verification and validation methodologies
- MATLAB and Simulink
- Speedgoat, dSPACE, or similar real-time simulation platforms
- Designing printed circuit boards (PCBs) or custom hardware solutions
- Environmental testing processes and engineering laboratory operations
- Grounding, ESD protection, and electrical safety practices
- Laboratory, manufacturing, clean room, or test environments
Technical skills
C and C++, Python, Git version control, Linux and Windows operating systems, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, digital multimeters, DC power supplies, Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing platforms, Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing environments, MATLAB, Simulink, Speedgoat and dSPACE platforms, engineering data analysis and reporting tools, Microsoft Office Suite.
