About the Role

Based in Midland, Texas, you will lead structural dynamics and vibration testing for spacecraft destined for AST SpaceMobile's global cellular broadband constellation. You will define sine vibration test levels, author test plans, direct lab execution, and report results to cross-functional teams and launch vehicle partners.

What You Will Do

  • Determine sine vibration base input levels and author sine vibration test plans
  • Serve as Test Director for sine vibration testing, working with lab personnel to ensure proper test execution
  • Report on testing and prepare launch vehicle tailored summaries
  • Prepare for test readiness by coordinating across spacecraft integration disciplines
  • Participate in material and failure review boards
  • Compile lessons learned and lead continuous process improvement
  • Work independently and with existing teams on complex problems

Minimum Requirements

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field
  • Minimum 6 years hands-on experience in swept sine vibration testing of spacecraft, including test planning, instrumentation selection, test readiness, test level definition, data validation, base input control, notching and overshoots, and test reporting
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multidisciplinary teams
  • Flexibility and adaptability in fast-paced environments
  • Excellent written and verbal English communication
  • US Person status required for ITAR compliance

Technical Skillset

  • Strong knowledge of MS Excel and Matlab
  • SDOF system response to vibration and closed form analysis techniques
  • Very strong competency in MS Office tools
  • Familiarity with Vibration Control equipment and software
  • Understanding of accelerometers and data acquisition practices
  • Data validation in time and frequency domain signals

Preferred Qualifications

  • MS degree in structural dynamics or related specialty
  • Ability to code in programming languages or toolset APIs to automate tasks and improve efficiency
  • Experience leading random vibration, acoustic, or shock testing
  • Knowledge of environmental test criteria determination
  • Basic Finite Element Analysis experience in Nastran
