Mission Operations Engineer II Verified today
Astranis builds advanced satellites for high orbits, with five on orbit and many more launching soon. We operate a backlog of over $1 billion in commercial and US Government contracts.
The Role
You will work closely with hardware engineers to design how their systems should be operated, and write procedures to safely and reliably operate satellites. You will contribute to both commercial and US Government programs.
- Design and develop satellite operations systems and procedures, including commissioning and nominal operations
- Investigate anomalies and work with the mission operations and engineering team to safely resolve them
- Lead commanding activities during launch and commissioning of production satellites
- Work with satellite engineers to design, create, test, and execute operations procedures
- Automate manual processes using scripting and software tools
- Work with ground software teams as the user and requirements owner for operational tools
- Develop tools and processes to maintain high service uptime for customers
Requirements
- 2-6+ years total experience with satellite or spacecraft mission operations (not including internships)
- 1+ years experience with on-console spacecraft operations
- Experience scripting in any language (Python preferred)
- Experience with telemetry analysis and anomaly investigation
- Experience designing and executing satellite operations
- Basic understanding of satellite subsystems (hardware and software)
- Highly motivated, self-starting, and able to perform duties autonomously
- Passion for working in a fast-paced environment with hands-on development and testing
Bonus
- Experience building operational software tools and user-friendly UIs
- Experience with software development tools such as Git and Phabricator
- Experience operating GEO satellites
Compensation
Base salary: $130,000 to $170,000 USD. Compensation package includes equity via incentive stock options, company-subsidized healthcare, disability and life insurance, 401(k) retirement planning, flexible PTO, and free on-site catered meals.
