What you'll do
- Mature designs through conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases using practical passive and active thermal control techniques
- Support design trades that balance performance margins, resource use, risk, cost, and schedule
- Perform thermal analysis at varying fidelity levels on propulsion components, batteries, high-powered electronics, RF components, mechanisms, and printed circuit boards
- Design, evaluate, procure and test thermal solutions such as heaters, heat pipes, thermal interface materials, and surface coatings
- Develop processes and procedures for integration and assembly to ensure thermal design intent is met; collaborate with integration and test teams
- Plan and run thermal vacuum testing and verification at component and spacecraft level
What you need
- Bachelor of Science degree in engineering or physics
- 2+ years of experience in a thermal or mechanical role
- Experience in thermal analysis and thermally-constrained design
- Proficiency with mechanical CAD
- Strong problem-solving background and hands-on testing skills
- Passion for hardware development in a fast-paced environment
Bonus experience
- Computational thermal design (finite element methods)
- Thermal Desktop software
- ANSYS Mechanical or ANSYS IcePak
- Electronics packaging and printed circuit board design
- Building and operating high vacuum systems
- Designing for vacuum environments or large temperature swings
