Senior Systems Engineer
About the role
The Systems Engineering group at Astrobotic manages the system lifecycle of space systems from concept through design, testing, production, and flight. We are seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support Business Development and proposal efforts, working across multiple disciplines to ensure every component and interface meets standards for safety, performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
Your responsibilities
- Work with business and advanced development teams in the end-to-end proposal process, from analyzing Requests for Proposals (RFP) to final submission
- Develop system-level requirements and conduct technical and cost estimation
- Serve as customer liaison and author technical writing for proposals
- Conduct trade studies and assess launch vehicle requirements
- Lead cross-functional collaboration and technical risk assessment
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation and reporting
- Lead technical presentations and demonstrations during concept and engineering development phases
- Assist technical proposals for mission and technology development opportunities
- Communicate with partners and customers to resolve technical risks and challenges
Required qualifications
- B.S. in Engineering or related technical field plus 5 years of relevant space mission experience including demonstrated leadership roles. Relevant advanced degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience
- Demonstrated experience in multiple areas of: liquid propellant rocket systems, propulsion systems, avionics, electronics systems, software engineering, embedded systems, systems engineering, systems integration and test, verification and validation, or system configuration management
- Hands-on hardware experience as technical lead across full lifecycle of design, development, manufacturing, testing, and operations
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated experience interfacing with internal and external organizations
Desired qualifications
- Experience developing liquid propellant rocket propulsion systems from feasibility studies through flight and mission operations
- Knowledge of system manufacturing and verification and validation plans for propulsion systems
- Demonstrated experience in AS9100 or ISO9000 environments
- Experience in agile environments using Confluence and Jira
- Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama
- Familiarity with 14 CFR Part 450, AFSPCMAN 91-710, and/or ARP4761
- Familiarity with structural engineering
- Knowledge of system verification and validation planning
- Knowledge of reliability engineering and analysis
- Knowledge of range safety compliance
