About the role
Axiom Space is seeking an Avionics Senior Technical Lead to develop avionics for next-generation spacesuits. You will provide technical oversight of program-wide avionics functions, manage the overall avionics architecture, and drive sound technical decision-making as the system evolves from development through production and testing. This position directly supports the nation's ambitions of landing the first woman and next man on the Moon.
Key responsibilities
- Provide technical oversight of avionics functions and design for Axiom's EVA System across all development phases
- Manage overall avionics architecture and lead technical decision-making
- Design spaceflight-rated PCBs for critical life support systems
- Design instruments including FPGAs, microprocessors, power, and analog components
- Coordinate and plan tasks with the Avionics Team to meet program schedules
- Collaborate with the Chief Engineer to provide avionics support on the EVA system
- Provide mentorship to engineering staff on the Power Avionics and Controls team
- Participate in all aspects of avionics development from design to certification and flight
- Build and test prototype and spaceflight hardware
- Prepare documentation for design reviews, manufacturing, assembly, and testing
- Manage and communicate project progress, status, and issues to stakeholders and leadership
Required qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in electrical or computer engineering with 15+ years of experience
- Ability to drive forward and deliver outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
- Ability to communicate and problem-solve proactively
Preferred experience
- High-speed digital circuit design
- Spaceflight or harsh environment rated electronics
- NASA or DOD requirements and regulations
Work environment and requirements
Generally an office environment, with potential inside or outside work depending on the task. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of the time).
You must be able to complete a U.S. government background investigation and provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Residency. You must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones.
