The Role

Axiom Space is seeking a Manager, Electrical Specialties to lead a team of engineers ensuring electrical integrity, reliability, and compliance of aerospace systems. You will oversee technical strategy, risk management, qualification activities, and customer compliance requirements across spacecraft, avionics, and mission-critical hardware programs.

This role blends people leadership with hands-on technical insight. You will partner closely with avionics, systems integration, testing, manufacturing, quality, and program teams to drive design assurance and mission success while maintaining industry standards and regulatory compliance.

What You Will Do

  • Lead and manage a team of Electrical Specialties engineers supporting EMI/EMC, EEE parts, radiation effects, grounding and bonding, and related reliability disciplines
  • Establish technical strategy, priorities, and resource plans to support spacecraft, avionics, payload, and aerospace system development programs
  • Oversee EMI/EMC analyses, testing, and qualification activities to ensure compliance with mission, customer, and regulatory requirements
  • Direct EEE parts selection, qualification, approval, obsolescence management, and failure review processes for high-reliability applications
  • Provide technical leadership for radiation effects assessment, mitigation strategies, and component suitability for mission environments
  • Review and approve engineering analyses, requirements, specifications, test plans, and certification documentation
  • Partner with systems, hardware, software, manufacturing, quality, and program management teams to resolve complex technical issues and reduce program risk
  • Support customer engagements, design reviews, audits, and technical presentations as the subject matter expert for Electrical Specialties disciplines
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives, lessons learned integration, and implementation of industry best practices and standards
  • Manage departmental budgets, schedules, staffing, and performance objectives to ensure successful program execution
  • Recruit, mentor, develop, and retain engineering talent while fostering a culture of technical excellence, innovation, and collaboration
  • Ensure compliance with company, customer, and aerospace industry requirements for safety, quality, reliability, and mission assurance
  • Communicate project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership
  • Implement and maintain agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline; Master's degree preferred
  • 10 or more years of progressively responsible engineering experience in aerospace, defense, space systems, or other high-reliability industries, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 3 or more years of technical leadership or people management experience leading multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more Electrical Specialties disciplines, including EMI/EMC, EEE Parts Engineering, Radiation Effects, Grounding and Bonding, or Mission Assurance
  • Experience supporting the design, development, qualification, and production of aerospace, spacecraft, avionics, or mission-critical hardware systems
  • Strong knowledge of applicable aerospace industry standards, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance practices
  • Proven ability to lead technical reviews, risk assessments, failure investigations, and corrective action activities
  • Track record of making things happen in ambiguous, fast-moving environments
  • Good judgment to proactively solve complex technical and organizational challenges with positive business and program outcomes
  • Demonstrated organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to meet tight deadlines while delivering high-quality results
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience interfacing effectively with customers, suppliers, executives, and cross-functional teams
  • Experience mentoring, developing, and retaining engineering talent while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement

Work Environment

Generally, an office environment in Houston, but can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time); may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time). Standard office equipment includes PC, phone, and printer.

Requirements

This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). Final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.
