EPS Integration and Planning Engineer Principal Verified today
Role Overview
Axiom Space is seeking an EPS Integration and Planning Engineer Principal to own how the Electrical Power System progresses from design through flight hardware deployment on Axiom Station. You will manage the Integrated Master Schedule, identify and mitigate schedule risks, coordinate supplier deliverables, and ensure gate readiness across all integration phases.
About the System
Axiom Station power architecture is a regulated 120 V dual bus system: solar array regulation, isolated conversion, high voltage energy storage with charge and discharge regulation, secondary conversion to 120 V and 28 V, and protected load distribution through latching current limiters. The system is distributed across module boundaries and berthing and docking interfaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Own EPS content of the Integrated Master Schedule in Microsoft Project: activity definition, network logic, dependencies, durations, resource assumptions, baseline and change control, progress status, forecast dates, and gate traceability
- Perform critical path and near critical path analysis; identify schedule threats early, quantify impact, and present recovery options with consequences
- Track long lead procurement and supplier delivery commitments against need dates
- Own integration risk management: identification, likelihood and consequence assessment, mitigation planning, tracking to closure, with explicit schedule consequences
- Drive gate readiness: define entry and exit criteria, track evidence, run readiness assessments before internal gates and major reviews, close gaps proactively
- Coordinate cross-subsystem interfaces: develop and review interface control documents with command and data handling, thermal, guidance and navigation, structures, and software subsystems; manage electromagnetic compatibility and grounding coordination
- Validate interfaces at integration gates: power budgets, data rates, telemetry content, thermal loads, mass properties, mechanical accommodation; drive discrepancies to closure
- Maintain requirements flow down and traceability from station and module level through equipment and supplier specifications; run periodic traceability audits
- Coordinate supplier deliverables and interfaces: track deliverables and actions, manage supplier gate attendance, deconflict cross-supplier interfaces, integrate supplier data into Axiom thermal models, power budgets, and failure modes and effects analysis
- Coordinate customer and International Space Station Program interface: respond to technical inquiries, disposition review items, prepare white papers, support certification and safety packages including hazard reports, validate standards compliance against SSP 30237, SSP 50005, SSP 50094, and NASA-STD-3001
- Coordinate facilities and test infrastructure readiness: plan laboratory space for benchtop, integration, and environmental test; track test equipment procurement; validate facility readiness for power, cooling, data acquisition, and safety; deconflict test schedules
- Support mission operations and concept of operations integration: operational modes, fault response, crew displays, controls, procedures, mission timeline alignment with power profiles and deployable sequencing, and ground operations planning from pre-launch through commissioning
- Prepare, present, and defend schedule, risk, and integration status at internal gates and at SRR, PDR, CDR, Test Readiness Review, Manufacturing Readiness Review, and Flight Readiness Review; drive actions to closure
- Mentor and direct a junior integration and planning engineer
- Communicate progress, status, risk, and options to stakeholders and leadership
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or equivalent; advanced degree preferred
- Level 5: 12 or more years' experience, including at least one program carried through a major integration and test campaign; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Demonstrated ownership of an Integrated Master Schedule or significant subsystem schedule in Microsoft Project: activity logic, critical path analysis, baseline and change management, resource and long lead tracking, and status reporting used by leadership for decision-making
- Demonstrated ability to build a schedule from technical content: extract work requirements from subsystem leads and suppliers and turn them into a defensible network
- Genuine affinity for planning work; treat a well-constructed schedule as an engineering product with its own integrity, not as reporting overhead
- Demonstrated interface ownership: author, review, and deconflict interface control documents across multiple subsystems and organizations
- Technical literacy in electrical power systems: power and energy budgets, distribution and protection concepts, grounding and isolation, and ability to interpret interface numbers
- Experience coordinating suppliers and subcontractors through design reviews, deliverable schedules, and action closure
- Experience interfacing with government or institutional customers, including formal inquiry response, review item disposition, and certification or safety documentation
- Excellent written and verbal communication; ability to defend technical positions in front of customers, partners, and safety authorities
- Track record of delivering outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments with high quality results under tight deadlines
- Good judgment to problem-solve proactively and positively impact hard challenges
- Demonstrated organization skills to meet tight deadlines with high quality results
Preferred Qualifications
- Human spaceflight experience and familiarity with International Space Station interfaces, safety review process, and visiting vehicle practice
- Experience with Primavera P6, earned value management, or formal schedule risk analysis
- Experience in program planning and control organization on a hardware development program
- Experience planning and standing up laboratory, integration, and environmental test infrastructure
- Experience with requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS, including traceability and change control
- Experience developing concept of operations products, crew procedures, or flight operations products
- Project Management Professional certification, PMI Scheduling Professional certification, INCOSE certification, or equivalent demonstrated practice
- Direct experience with spacecraft electrical power hardware, test, or operations
Core Competencies
- Leadership
- Innovation
- Teamwork
- Accountability
- Technical Rigor
- Execution Discipline
- Pride of Delivery
Work Environment
Generally an office environment; can involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet critical project milestones. Work involves sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time); may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs (5% of the time). Standard office equipment required.
Requirements
This position may require access to export controlled technical data or technology subject to NASA regulations, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), or Export Administration Regulations (EAR). In accordance with U.S. export control laws, final candidates may be required to undergo additional export control screening to determine eligibility for access. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.
