About the Role

Axiom Space is seeking a Senior Electrical Power System Engineer to work on the power architecture of Axiom Station, the successor to the International Space Station. You will own real work, with a senior engineer reviewing it, and the scope will grow as you demonstrate capability.

Axiom Station uses a regulated 120V dual-bus power system: solar array regulation as the first stage, isolated conversion as the second, high-voltage energy storage with charge and discharge regulation, secondary conversion to 120V and 28V, and protected load distribution through latching current limiters, distributed across module boundaries and berthing interfaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and maintain electrical power requirements, verification methods, and traceability in the requirements management tool.
  • Build and run system models: power and energy budgets, load lists and profiles, voltage drop and harness sizing, fault current and protection sizing, efficiency and dissipation rollups, and transient studies.
  • Support development of interface control documents and power quality documentation.
  • Maintain configuration data: equipment lists, load databases, connector and harness data, version and change history.
  • Support supplier technical exchanges: prepare questions, review data packages against specifications, flag inconsistencies.
  • Support laboratory and engineering model testing: setup, instrumentation, execution, data reduction, and test reporting.
  • Prepare material for SRR, PDR, CDR, Test Readiness Review, and Manufacturing Readiness Review.
  • Grow toward ownership of requirement sets, analysis areas, and interfaces with senior mentorship.
  • Communicate progress, status, and issues honestly and early.

Experience and Education

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent. Position is open at Level 2 (2+ years relevant experience, including internship, co-op, or research) or Level 3 (5+ years relevant experience).

You must have:

  • Working knowledge of power electronics fundamentals: isolated and non-isolated DC-to-DC conversion, basic control loop and stability concepts, magnetics, and protection devices.
  • Ability to build and run engineering calculations in MATLAB, Simulink, Python, Excel, or equivalent.
  • Laboratory competence with oscilloscopes, multimeters, electronic loads, programmable power supplies, and data acquisition.
  • Clear technical writing for documents read by external organizations.
  • Curiosity and willingness to ask questions early rather than deliver wrong answers late.
  • Comfort in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship, co-op, or project experience in spacecraft, aerospace, defense, or high-reliability power systems.
  • Hands-on converter design, build, or test experience, including academic projects and competition teams.
  • Exposure to requirements management tools such as Jama or DOORS.
  • Exposure to space power standards: SSP 30237, SSP 52051, NASA-STD-4003.
  • Exposure to EMC testing, grounding and bonding, or environmental test campaigns.
  • Engineer in Training certification or progress toward professional licensure.

Export Control and Work Conditions

This position may require access to export-controlled technical data subject to ITAR or EAR regulations. Final candidates may undergo export control screening to determine eligibility. Meeting these requirements is a condition of employment.

Must be willing to work evenings and weekends to meet critical project milestones. Work environment is generally office-based but may involve inside or outside work depending on the task. Work involves sitting or standing for extended periods (90% of the time) and may require lifting and carrying up to 25 lbs. (5% of the time).
