The Role

You will work within the In-Space Systems business unit, focused on space infrastructure and on-orbit mobility. As part of the Blue Ring Spacecraft Systems Engineering team, you will apply multi-disciplinary engineering knowledge to ensure our spacecraft meets customer needs through rigorous systems engineering practices.

You will shape requirements, system designs and operations to support program goals. You will define and verify system requirements, interfaces, architecture and concepts of operations. You will coordinate across Assembly, Integration and Test, Mission Systems, Launch Vehicle, Payloads and Mission Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the Lead Systems Engineer to ensure compliance with design standards, processes and best practices
  • Apply technical principles in systems engineering: CONOPs development, requirements definition and analysis, interface definition
  • Decompose high-level requirements into lower-level system architecture, design requirements and functional block diagrams
  • Ensure subsystems have proper requirements definition, verification and validation plans aligned with system and mission objectives
  • Coordinate with specialty engineering functions supporting subsystem development teams
  • Oversee verification and validation strategies, plans and processes for software and hardware components and integrated spacecraft subsystems
  • Create and oversee execution of test plans, procedures and results reports
  • Collaborate with program elements (I&T, ground systems, flight operations, mission management, systems architecture) to create holistic solutions
  • Identify and assist in management of technical, schedule and cost risks
  • Work with flight software teams to resolve implementation issues, review development processes, and link requirements to functional behaviors
  • Assist in planning and development of system-level verification methods and events
  • Support Assembly, Integration and Test teams in developing test procedures and scripts
  • Support integration activities in the spacecraft assembly facility
  • Assist with proposals based on spacecraft capabilities and functions
  • Manage technical performance measures for the overall vehicle
  • Participate in gated program reviews and drive actions to closure
  • Drive process improvements with ownership and urgency

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace engineering or equivalent technical field
  • At least 3 years relevant experience in systems engineering, preferably in space industry
  • Demonstrated understanding of systems engineering fundamentals and experience in multiple system lifecycle phases
  • Experience developing integrated systems with depth in one or more spacecraft subsystems and/or system design and integration
  • Experience defining space system requirements and concept definitions spanning broad mission objectives
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. degree in relevant technical field
  • Domain experience with spacecraft system and subsystem functions, interfaces and communication protocols (serial, 1553, Ethernet, embedded software)
  • Experience defining and performing complex trade studies
  • Experience with design, development and certification of spaceflight systems
  • Experience with logical and physical architecture definition and decomposition
  • Experience using hardware or software testbeds and lab environments for software and system verification
  • Flight software experience

Special Notes

  • Travel expected up to 10% of the time
  • Top Secret clearance desired

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location: CA, WA, VA: $99,201 to $138,880; CO: $90,934 to $127,307. Other site ranges may differ.
