Application Software Engineer II – Avionics Hardware Component Test Verified today
About the role
New Glenn is Blue Origin's heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to low-Earth orbit and beyond. All avionics equipment must be verified before flight. You will join the Chassis Tester Software team as an individual technical contributor, building the software stack that makes that verification possible.
This is not traditional test automation. You will write Linux instrument drivers, architect hardware-in-the-loop test frameworks, build operator-facing tools for the test floor, and own the automated result-checking infrastructure that determines pass/fail for flight-critical hardware.
What you will do
- Work with internal customers to capture requirements, negotiate scope, and meet program milestones
- Design and implement production-quality instrument software drivers for test instruments
- Work directly with avionics hardware engineers to understand instrument behavior and validate driver correctness against hardware specs
- Architect and extend automated test execution frameworks
- Implement check logic, pass/fail criteria, limit management, and structured report generation for acceptance and qualification test campaigns
Required qualifications
- B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field
- 2+ years of professional software coding and engineering experience
- Proficiency with Python or C++
- Proven experience developing software on Linux OS
- Experience with the networking stack: socket programming, UDP/TCP and command transport, packet capture and parsing, network reliability handling and configuration
- Hands-on experience writing hardware interface software and instrument drivers
- Git workflow discipline, CI/CD
Preferred qualifications
- Familiarity with avionics test environments and automated test equipment (ATE)
- Knowledge of acceptance and qualification test processes in aerospace hardware development lifecycle
- Familiarity with Processor-in-Loop (PIL) design and deploy for test
