About the Role

This is a mid-career position within the Lunar Permanence business unit's Core Platform System team. You will own the compute, network, and input/output functions of a lunar spacecraft, combining subsystem design with hands-on hardware work in development and flight labs, plus support for vehicle integration and test.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as technical authority for physical and functional components of avionics hardware design, including flight computers, data buses, and avionics architectures for human-rated spacecraft
  • Develop and manage requirements for avionics subsystems with full traceability and verification planning using industry-standard tools
  • Execute development, verification, and validation work in laboratory and production environments
  • Integrate avionics interfaces with vehicle subsystems including GNC, power, propulsion, and mechanical systems
  • Coordinate with internal and external component developers on interface definitions, deliverables, and schedules
  • Support long-lead hardware identification and procurement planning to meet launch targets
  • Conduct risk analyses including FMECA, design-for-test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Apply engineering and business judgment to ensure efficient and effective design, manufacture, procurement, test, qualification, and delivery

Minimum Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or related Engineering field
  • 5 or more years of demonstrated experience in relevant areas of engineering operations
  • Experience with analog, digital and mixed-signal circuit analysis, simulation, design, test, troubleshooting, signal integrity, power, and grounding
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Familiarity with amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, power supplies, and analog circuits
  • Avionics hardware component design and assembly experience
  • Avionics hardware and software integration experience
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. or PhD in the subject disciplines
  • 8 or more years of industry technical experience in system formulation, research and development, and operations applied to spacecraft systems
  • Experience with human-rated spacecraft systems and safety-critical design processes for crewed missions
  • Strong team leadership and people management skills
  • Demonstrated experience designing high reliability safety-critical Class 2/3 board assemblies; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254 and similar standards
  • Requirements management experience including familiarity with requirements management tools and aerospace standards
  • Scripting, programming and analysis: TCL, Python, Linux shell and Windows batch scripting; C/C++; MATLAB/Simulink, HSPICE and HFSS or similar modeling/analysis tools
  • Spacecraft avionics hardware environmental test experience including radiation, vibration, and thermal testing
  • Cross-organizational coordination experience working with multiple engineering teams and external organizations
  • Ability to execute in a dynamic, fast-paced, and driven work environment

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation range for Washington applicants: $130,706.00 to $182,987.70 annually. Other site ranges may differ.
