The Role
You will design, build, and maintain embedded software applications for human-capable spacecraft. Your work spans requirement analysis, code development, testing, documentation, and system integration. You'll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to build verification plans, frameworks, and tests for safety-critical, real-time embedded software that supports control and diagnostics across both orbital and sub-orbital programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain software applications and their components
- Conduct requirement analysis, code development, testing, collaboration, documentation, and system integration
- Collaborate on verification plans, frameworks, tools, and tests for safety-critical, real-time embedded software
- Review and update software requirements and designs for verifiability
- Write code to verify software for various embedded environments in C, C++, and Python
- Design adversarial, requirements-based automated tests
- Develop tools and infrastructure to support efficient build, debugging, and deployment
Required Qualifications
- BS Degree in computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, mathematics, physics, aerospace, or related field
- Degree earned within the last year, able to start by Fall 2027
- Software development skills in C/C++, Python, or C#/Java
- Problem-solving and debugging skills, particularly in C/C++
- Experience with formalized verification activities (test cases, procedures, reports)
- Collaborative interactions with software development teams while maintaining objectivity and independence
- Relevant internship, co-op, and/or hands-on experience demonstrating technical skills and leadership qualities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
- Flexible and adaptable mindset
- Self-driven with ability to seek out requirements with minimal direction
Desired Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering
- Experience with build, test, and deployment automation
- Understanding of computer networking systems and protocols
- Experience with distributed applications and safety-critical software development
- Experience with Qt framework/QML
- DevOps and Agile/Scrum experience
- Working knowledge of configuration management and source code management systems
Locations
Primary locations are Kent, WA and Los Angeles, CA. Blue Origin prioritizes placing early-career engineers where they can be co-located with their team and relevant hardware. Please indicate in your application where you would be willing to be located.
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range varies by location:
- Colorado applicants: $101,405 to $141,966
- Washington applicants: $110,623 to $154,872
- Other site ranges may differ
