About the role
Join the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You'll develop advanced avionics systems for sustainable transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.
Responsibilities
- Develop, lead, and own digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuit avionics designs that interact with avionics systems
- Own avionics boards across the entire product lifecycle: concept, requirements definition, design, analysis, prototyping, schematic capture, layout, design review, test and verification, and release to production
- Support avionics trade studies, analyses, performance characterization, specification, and device selection
- Support controller risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), worst case circuit analyses (WCCA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
- Participate in program-level technology development, mission assurance, safety initiatives, and avionics development process improvements
- Communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management
Required qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
- 2 or more years of experience in design, development, test, and operation of vehicle avionics systems
- Breadth of understanding in electronics hardware development such as complex circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or advanced commercial or aerospace products
- Experience with analog, digital, or mixed-signal circuit design including analysis, simulation, test, troubleshooting, and part selection
- Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and board layout principles
- Familiarity with microcontrollers, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, op amps, power supplies (linear, LDO, DC/DC), volatile memory (DDR), non-volatile memory (NAND, NOR), and MOSFETs
- Knowledge of common communication methods: RS232, RS422, I2C, SPI, LVDS, Ethernet, CAN, or PCIe
- Desire to work hands-on, independently and as part of a team, throughout development and production phases
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of collaboration
- 25-50% travel to Blue Origin locations for meetings, testing, or company events if not based in Washington
Desired qualifications
- Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
- Experience with space vehicle avionics systems hardware development, integration, and test
- Knowledge of radiation effects on electronics and application to space designs
- Basic or better knowledge of motor controller design and operation
- Demonstrated experience designing high reliability safety-critical Class 2/3 board assemblies; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610, DO-254, and similar standards
- Scripting and programming: TCL, Python, Linux shell, Windows batch scripting, C/C++, MATLAB/Simulink, HSPICE, HFSS, or similar modeling and analysis tools
Compensation
Base pay range varies by location:
- CA: $107,136 to $149,990.40
- CO: $98,208 to $137,491.20
- WA: $107,136 to $149,990.40
- Other site ranges may differ
