About the Role

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will join a team of engineers developing advanced avionics systems for sustainable lunar infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead, and own digital, analog, and mixed-signal circuit avionics designs that interact with avionics systems
  • Own avionics boards across the entire product life cycle: concept, requirements definition, design, analysis, prototyping, schematic capture, layout, design review, test and verification, and release to production
  • Support avionics trade studies, analyses, performance characterization, specification, and device selection
  • Support controller risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), worst case circuit analyses (WCCA), design for test and manufacture and cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Participate in program level technology development, mission assurance and safety initiatives, and avionics development process improvements
  • Effectively communicate development status, risks, and challenges to management

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Breadth of understanding in electronics hardware development such as developing complex circuit cards, consumer electronics, wireless devices, or other advanced electronic commercial or aerospace products
  • Experience with analog, digital or mixed-signal circuit design, including analysis, simulation, test, troubleshooting, and part selection
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Familiarity with microcontrollers, FPGAs, ADCs, DACs, Op Amps, power supplies (linear, LDO, DC/DC), volatile memory (DDR), non-volatile memory (NAND, NOR), and MOSFETs
  • Knowledge of common communication methods such as RS232, RS422, I2C, SPI, LVDS, Ethernet, CAN, or PCIe
  • Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and contribute to a culture of collaboration
  • 25-50% travel to Blue Origin locations for meetings, product testing, or large-scale company events if not based in Washington

Desired Qualifications

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related disciplines
  • 2 or more years of experience in design, development, test, and operation of vehicle avionics systems
  • 5 or more years of experience in design, development, test, and operation of vehicle avionics systems
  • Experience with space vehicle avionics systems hardware development, integration, and test
  • Knowledge of radiation effects on electronics and how to apply this to designs targeting space applications
  • Basic or better knowledge of motor controller design and operation
  • Demonstrated experience designing high reliability safety-critical Class 2/3 board assemblies; familiarity with IPC-A-600/610 and DO-254 standards
  • Scripting, programming and analysis: TCL, Python, Linux shell and Windows batch scripting; C and C++; MATLAB, Simulink, HSPICE and HFSS or similar modeling and analysis tools

Compensation

Compensation range varies by location:

  • CA applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40
  • CO applicants: $98,208.00 to $137,491.20
  • WA applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40
  • Other site ranges may differ
