Avionics Hardware Engineer - Lunar Permanence

Join Blue Origin's Core Avionics organization in the Lunar Permanence Business Unit as an Avionics Hardware Engineer. You will directly contribute to the development of avionics components for lunar vehicles, working across the entire product lifecycle from conception to sustainment.

What you will do

You will work on development, manufacturing, and testing of Lunar Command and Data Handling (C&DH) and Power Management and Distribution (PMAD) components. Your responsibilities include:

  • Support Responsible Engineers in avionics box lifecycle development
  • Hardware build, integration, and test of Engineering Development Unit (EDU) and flight hardware
  • Verification and qualification activities
  • Requirements development and interface definition
  • Develop and implement verification and qualification strategies
  • Root cause analyses for hardware failures and mitigation plan development
  • Product requirements development and design review support (SRR, PDR, CDR)

Minimum qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical, Computer, Aerospace, or related field
  • Avionics hardware build and test experience
  • Complex hardware design experience with product design reviews (SRR, PDR, CDR)
  • Knowledge of and experience in requirements development and requirements-based verification
  • Familiarity with integrated systems verification, including hardware verification test plans and test reports for certification and qualification
  • U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum

Preferred qualifications

  • Master of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field
  • 6 or more years of proven track record in design, development, or test of space industry avionics components and systems
  • Experience developing digital, analog, or mixed-signal circuit board designs for avionics systems (design, prototyping, schematics, layout, test, verification)
  • Circuit analysis and simulation experience (worst-case circuit analysis, signal integrity, logic or P-Spice simulation)
  • Grounding and board layout principles, including EMI/EMC tradeoffs
  • Experience with Jama or similar requirements management tools
  • Experience with MIL-STD/DO-160/SMC-S-016 environmental qualification testing
  • Familiarity with ARP 4754 and/or DO-254/DO-178 or similar standards
  • Familiarity with product development lifecycle phases and hardware development, integration, or verification

Work location and schedule

  • On-site 5 days per week in Kent, WA
  • Predominately first shift Monday-Friday; some evening or weekend work may be required during test campaigns
  • Travel expected up to 20% of the time
  • Relocation provided

Compensation and benefits

Base pay range for WA applicants: $130,706.00 - $182,987.70. Other site ranges may differ.
