About the role
This position supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle designed to carry people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable and human-capable.
You will be the operational authority on all aspects of New Glenn avionics operations, including CONOPS, functional architecture, components, and software. You will follow the development of component hardware, autonomous software, and development testing. You will be accountable for feeding forward lessons learned into the coordinated operation of your subsystem on the flight vehicle, collaborating with stage-level leads and building a comprehensive set of constraints, alerts, and limits for the New Glenn operations teams.
Responsibilities
- Build detailed CONOPS for pre-launch and flight operations
- Define constraints for end-to-end safe handling and successful testing and launch operations
- Collaborate with integrated test, launch operations, and autonomous flight operations teams to incorporate operational constraints into downstream procedures and flight plans
- Develop console products for use by operators during test and launch operations
- Provide real-time engineering anomaly resolution during integrated test and launch operations
Required qualifications
- B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or related technical field
- 5+ years validated experience with avionics operations, including analysis, design, test, and operations for launch systems
- Hands-on experience developing, authoring, and implementing integrated tests or operating launch vehicles
- Experience developing analyses and trade studies for sophisticated avionics systems
- Ability to work with partially defined requirements and changing criteria
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive, professional relationships
- Strong communication skills to explain complex engineering concepts across electrical, software, and mechanical disciplines
Desired qualifications
- Launch vehicle controller experience (front room or engineering back room)
- Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and/or SMC-S-016 testing standards
- Experience with Ethernet-based communication protocols
- Instrumentation knowledge and operational experience with data acquisition systems and electrical test equipment
- Multi-functional experience in fluids, hydraulics, mechanical, or actuated systems
- Experience working in an electronics laboratory environment
- Experience working with electronics in large-scale manufacturing
- Experience with JIRA, DOORS, MATLAB, Python, GIT, Creo, Confluence, and Windchill
Compensation and benefits
Base pay range for WA applicants: $121,023.00 to $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
