This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.

You will become the authority on all aspects of New Glenn avionics, including CONOPS, functional architecture, components, and software. You will follow the development of component hardware, autonomous software, and development testing, and will be accountable for feeding forward lessons learned into the coordinated operation of your subsystem on the flight vehicle. You will collaborate with stage-level leads and build a comprehensive set of constraints, alerts, and limits for the New Glenn operations teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build detailed CONOPS for pre-launch and flight operations
  • Define safety artifacts such as Functional Hazard Assessments and Allocations, FMECA, Fault Tree Analyses
  • Define Avionics system specifications and collaborate with other teams to provide verification reports
  • Define constraints for end-to-end safe handling and successful testing and launch operations
  • Collaborate with integrated test, launch operations, and autonomous flight operations teams to incorporate operational constraints into downstream procedures and flight plans
  • Provide real-time engineering anomaly resolution during integrated test and launch operations

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree or equivalent experience in Engineering or related technical field
  • 5+ years validated experience with Avionics operations, including a combination of analysis, design, test, and operations for launch systems
  • Hands-on experience in developing, authoring, and implementing integrated tests or operating launch vehicles
  • Ability to work with partially defined requirements and changing criteria
  • Experience with developing analyses and trade studies for sophisticated avionics systems
  • Engaging communicator, able to explain difficult engineering concepts to people of other engineering fields: Electrical, Software, Mechanical

Preferred Qualifications

  • Launch vehicle controller (front room or engineering back room) experience
  • Familiarity with DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, and/or SMC-S-016 testing standards
  • Experience with Ethernet based communication protocols
  • Instrumentation knowledge and operational experience with data acquisition systems and electrical test equipment
  • Experience working in an electronics laboratory environment
  • Multi-functional experience in fluids, hydraulics, mechanical, or actuated systems
  • Experience working with electronics in a large-scale manufacturing environment
  • Experience with software tools such as JIRA, DOORS, MATLAB, Python, GIT, Creo, Confluence, and Windchill

Compensation

Base pay range for Washington applicants: $99,201.00 to $138,880.35. Other site ranges may differ.
