Avionics - Technical Designer II (Fixed Term) Verified today
This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
As an Avionics Technical Designer, you will design, analyze, develop, and test ruggedized electronics enclosures for various spaceflight systems. You will create LRU and sensor installation drawings and specifications, support electronics development and trade studies, create interface definition and control documents, and validate requirements through design, test, or inspection. You will provide technical guidance for hardware installation and report on activity schedule and technical status.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop 2D and 3D models and drawings for ruggedized electronics enclosures and sensor packages using PTC Creo View
- Create and maintain LRU and sensor/harness installation drawings, specifications, and interface control documents (ICDs)
- Apply Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 standards
- Manage drawing release, revision control, and configuration data within Windchill (PLM)
- Collaborate with electrical, thermal, and structural engineers to support electronics development and trade studies
- Validate design requirements through analysis, test, or inspection
- Provide technical guidance to manufacturing and assembly teams during hardware installation and integration
- Support design reviews (PDR, CDR) with documentation, drawing packages, and technical presentations
- Report on schedule milestones, technical status, and risks to engineering leadership
- Ensure all designs comply with aerospace materials, finishes, and treatment specifications
Minimum Qualifications
- A.S. degree in drafting and design or equivalent design experience
- 3 or more years of recent electronics packaging experience documenting aerospace or equivalent Avionics LRUs and Sensor enclosures
- Proficient with Creo View and Windchill
- Proficient with drafting standards ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41
- Experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T)
- Working knowledge of aerospace materials and treatments
- Familiarity with harness standards: IPC/WHMA-A-620, NASA-STD-8739.4, or AS50881
- Ability to validate requirements through analysis tools

Preferred Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or design experience
- 5 or more proven years of industry experience in design
- Experience with ANSYS
- Experience performing thermal analysis
- Experience performing vibration analysis
- Experience with launch vehicle or spacecraft electrical/mechanical systems
Compensation and Location
Base Pay Range for WA applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40. Other site ranges may differ.
This is a fixed-term position at one of two locations.
