Avionics Test Engineer III - Lunar Core Components Verified today
This role supports the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will lead test campaigns in support of development, acceptance and qualification of flight avionics focused on Optical Systems hardware as part of the Core Components division.
Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and approve avionics test plans and procedures with emphasis on optical systems test and environmental test methodologies
- Support Design and Systems Engineers in avionics hardware design and verification plan development
- Work with Hardware and Software Design Engineers to design, build, and verify custom Automated Test Equipment
- Support schedule development and resource coordination
- Lead test readiness efforts, resolve work stoppages, and delegate supporting tasks
- Lead and directly run test procedures
- Enforce safety policies during test operations
- Troubleshoot test anomalies real-time and identify test article and test equipment non-conformances
- Lead anomaly investigations, root cause analyses, and development of recovery plans
- Consolidate, analyze, present, and archive test data
- Generate test record summaries and support generation of verification artifacts
- Guide avionics and optical hardware through the environmental testing process and ensure hardware and records meet engineering and quality requirements upon completion
- Develop and improve processes and standard procedures to optimize quality and efficiency
- Train Test Specialists and other Test Engineers
- Provide support to strategic initiatives, technology maturation, and capturing best practices
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. in electrical, computer, or aerospace engineering, physics, or related field
- Minimum 4 years demonstrated aerospace test experience including developing test requirements, plans, procedures, reports, and associated test equipment; operating and troubleshooting test setups and test articles; participating in environmental testing including Shock/Vibration, Thermal Cycles, Vacuum, and/or EMI/EMC
- Minimum 3 years demonstrated hardware test experience of typical avionics and optical devices at the LRU or system level (e.g., RS-422, RS-485, I2C, SPI, ethernet, MTF, SNR)
- Proficient in the use of standard electronic lab tests and troubleshooting equipment
- Desire to work hands-on, both independently and as part of a team, throughout the development and production phases of the mechanical and electronic assembly product lifecycle
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work with multi-functional teams such as mechanical, systems, and operations
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing, designing, and verifying custom Automated Test Equipment
- Experience testing optical systems such as cameras and lidars
- Experience working with Python
- Familiarity with Linux and other Unix-style operating systems
- Familiarity with git, JIRA, Windchill
- Experience developing hardware to IPC J-STD-0001xS, IPC/WHMA-A-620x-S, and/or NASA-STD-8739.n standards
- Experience with DO-160, MIL-STD-461, and SMC-S-016 testing standards
- Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical)
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range for WA applicants: $130,706 to $182,987.70. Other site ranges may differ.
