Battery Responsible Engineer - Electrical Power Systems - New Glenn
As a Responsible Engineer for avionics hardware, you will own all aspects of Li-Ion battery product design, development, qualification, and production for Blue Origin's New Glenn mission. You are the technical authority and subject matter expert for battery systems integration into the vehicle.
What you will do
- Develop, manage, and maintain full system design and associated documentation (CAD, drawings, ICDs, BOMs)
- Support system integration with multi-functional teams and conduct component, module, and subsystem-level validation
- Provide technical support during flight build, test, and delivery to the technical execution team
- Work closely with program and manufacturing teams through build, test, and delivery of flight hardware
- Support development of Automated Test Equipment and transition the product from development to production release
- Develop hardware requirements, test plans, and procedures in compliance with company and industry standards
- Lead successful qualification of the hardware
- Serve as subject matter expert for vehicle integration and troubleshooting
Required qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 5+ years direct experience in battery development
- Direct experience with battery design, test, and manufacturing
- Familiarity with lithium-ion batteries and battery test methods
- Ability to work hands-on, independently and as part of a team, throughout product lifecycle phases
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs
- Excellent technical communication skills, written and verbal
- Ability to travel to and work at remote sites supporting test integration, commissioning, and training
Desired qualifications
- Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 3+ years experience in space applications
- Experience in launch vehicle development
- Experience with human spaceflight or high-performance aircraft systems
- Experience across multiple portions of the product life cycle
- Experience with safety-critical systems development (automotive, aerospace, medical)
