The role

As part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, you will take ownership of a valve component on the BE-7 Engine Program. This responsibility covers the full development lifecycle of the valve, including early conceptual trades, detailed design, manufacturing, test, final qualification, and production support.

Your core activities will include:

  • Design of valve parts, assemblies, and selection of materials and processes considering manufacturability, mass, and recurring cost
  • CAD modeling to define part features and component assembly layouts, including preparation of drawing drafts
  • Analysis deliverables including performance predictions, tolerance stack-ups, test data analysis, and review of structural, thermal, and fluids analyses
  • Peer review of manufacturing plans, build procedures, and tool designs in close collaboration with manufacturing engineers
  • Planning, setup, and execution of component-level testing, including data analysis and results reporting for technical risk mitigation and requirements verification
  • Coordination with supply chain and suppliers to ensure on-time delivery of procured parts and define requirements for complex parts and assemblies
  • Support for production sustaining environment by addressing quality issues, troubleshooting, and disposition of non-conformities
  • Collaboration with Systems Engineering, Avionics, Integration, and Engine Test teams on cross-program impacts
  • Tactical planning to meet team and program-level objectives, trading scope, schedule, cost, and risk
  • Management of development activity scope and progress tracking against key milestones

Required qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering discipline (aerospace, mechanical, or physics desired)
  • 5 or more years of professional engineering experience with valves, pumps, mechanisms, electromechanical actuation, or fluid control systems
  • U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate across large programs
  • Ability to own and execute development activities with minimal direction
  • Strong technical fundamentals in mechanical design, fluid mechanics, structural mechanics, and thermodynamics
  • Direct experience with design, manufacturing, and test of valves operating with incompressible or compressible flow
  • Knowledge of fluid control components and system-level operation
  • Familiarity with common valve architectures, performance parameters, and design trade-offs
  • Knowledge of valve design processes, methodologies, and techniques for analytical performance prediction
  • Knowledge of seal designs, polymers, and application based on leak performance and operating conditions
  • Knowledge and selection of part materials and processes considering valve load paths, joint design, tribological wear, structural limits, thermal conditions, material compatibility, corrosion, and electrical bonding
  • Ability to interpret technical requirements into product design using margins and factors of safety
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling
  • Proficiency in part and assembly drawing drafting
  • Experience with data processing and analysis
  • Experience in evaluation of non-conforming hardware and preparation of disposition rationale
  • Knowledge of subtractive cutting or forming manufacturing processes for complex custom metal parts
  • Knowledge of quality processes and requirements for part-level and assembly-level manufacturing
  • Experience with test planning, execution, data analysis, and reporting
  • Experience with component-level testing for valve requirement verification including flow rate, leakage, dynamic environments, thermal environments, and operational life
  • Experience with design of test setups for pressurized fluid flow testing
