Role Overview

Join the In-Space Systems business unit as a Systems Architect within Mission Systems Engineering, Integration & Test. You will work at spacecraft mission and system level, using modern MBSE and System Architecture standards to capture Blue Ring architectural product line variants. This role reports to the Mission SEIT Requirements, Verification & Model-Based Systems Engineering Architecture Director and begins with a first-of-its-kind space vehicle in development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mission Lead Systems Engineers, Spacecraft Systems Engineering, Flight Software, Payload & Mission Integration, and Ground Systems Engineering teams to define system architecture variants in a model-based environment across multiple customers and missions
  • Analyze mission requirements for multiple mission types and ensure accurate flow-down and traceability to elements in the system architecture
  • Support derivation and allocation of requirements to lower levels of the system architecture in collaboration with development teams
  • Deconflict competing requirements and support development of concepts, candidate architectures, and optimized synthesis of requirements, architecture and design
  • Generate MBSE artifacts such as space vehicle States and Modes definitions, Operational Constraints, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and behavior diagrams
  • Perform as subject matter expert on spacecraft and ground system capabilities and constraints to support definition of multiple candidate architectures for evolving customer needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent technical field
  • 9+ years related experience in system architecture definition/development, requirements engineering/requirements management, space or ground system design, software design, or interface definition
  • Familiarity with or experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering, such as System Models and/or System Architecture diagrams
  • Familiarity with spacecraft operations, command & control, and/or spacecraft communications uplink and downlink technologies
  • Understanding of the Systems Engineering lifecycle and the Systems Engineering V
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Active US Government Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spacecraft command & control system experience
  • Software or scripting language experience
  • Experience with MBSE/System Modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, or Rhapsody
  • Familiarity with System Architecture frameworks such as Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DODAF), Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), or NASA Space Mission Architecture Framework (SMAF)
  • Spacecraft and ground-system internal and external interface familiarity
  • Experience across product life cycle (pre-conceptual design through operational support)
  • Familiarity with spacecraft initialization and mission operations concepts
  • Experience with system requirements elicitation, derivation and allocation
  • Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture or related discipline

  • Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Clearance required to start
  • Relocation required to Greater Seattle Area
  • Must be U.S. citizen, U.S. national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee

Compensation

Base Pay Range for WA applicants: $145,188.00 - $203,263.20. Other site ranges may differ.
