About This Role

This position is part of Blue National Security, designing and delivering launch and spacecraft systems for national security missions. Blue Ring is a hybrid solar-electric and chemical-propelled spacecraft platform offering mission maneuverability, versatility, and capacity at lower cost.

As a Systems Architect in the Mission Systems Engineering, Integration & Test organization, you will optimize the Blue Ring system architecture baseline for unique missions and customer needs. You'll work at the spacecraft mission and system level, using modern MBSE and System Architecture standards to capture architectural product line variants, spacecraft bus, ground systems, payload requirements and interfaces in a model-based environment. You'll support maturing the Blue Ring Digital Thread alongside this first-of-its-kind space vehicle through multiple missions.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with Mission Lead Systems Engineers, Spacecraft Systems Engineering, Flight Software, Payload & Mission Integration, and Ground Systems Engineering teams to define system architecture variants across multiple customers and missions
  • Analyze mission requirements for multiple mission types and ensure accurate flow-down and traceability to system architecture elements
  • Support derivation and allocation of requirements to lower-level system architecture in collaboration with development teams
  • Deconflict competing requirements and support development of concepts, candidate architectures, and optimized synthesis of requirements, architecture and design
  • Generate MBSE artifacts including States and Modes definitions, Operational Constraints, activity diagrams, sequence diagrams, and behavior diagrams
  • Perform as subject matter expert on spacecraft and ground system capabilities and constraints to define multiple candidate architectures for evolving customer needs

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent technical field
  • 9 or more years of related experience in one or combination of: system architecture definition/development, requirements engineering/requirements management, space or ground system and/or software design and interface definition
  • Familiarity with or experience in Model-Based Systems Engineering such as System Models and/or System Architecture diagrams
  • Familiarity with spacecraft operations, command & control, and/or spacecraft communications uplink and downlink technologies
  • Understanding of Systems Engineering lifecycle and the Systems Engineering V
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Active US Government Top Secret / Sensitive Compartmented Information (TS/SCI) Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Spacecraft command & control system experience
  • Software or scripting language experience
  • Experience with MBSE/System Modeling tools such as Cameo Systems Modeler, Enterprise Architect, MagicDraw, or Rhapsody
  • Familiarity with System Architecture frameworks such as Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DODAF), Unified Architecture Framework (UAF), or NASA Space Mission Architecture Framework (SMAF)
  • Spacecraft and ground-system internal and external interface familiarity
  • Experience across product life cycle from pre-conceptual design through operational support
  • Familiarity with spacecraft initialization and mission operations concepts
  • Experience with system requirements elicitation, derivation and allocation
  • Knowledge of collaboration tools such as Confluence and JIRA
  • Familiarity with formal risk and opportunity management processes
  • Master's degree in Systems Engineering, Systems Architecture or related discipline

Compensation

Base Pay Range: CO applicants $133,500.00 - $186,898.95; WA applicants $145,188.00 - $203,263.20. Other site ranges may differ.
