About this role

You will work within Blue Origin Operations' Ground Support Development (GSD) Engineering Services team, providing technical design support for ground systems hardware. This is an entry-level position ideal for recent graduates or candidates with foundational CAD experience. You will be paired with a senior mentor and complete structured onboarding including tool training, process familiarization, and rotational project assignments across core disciplines.

You will support Launch Pad and Launch Accessories for New Glenn, engine and space hardware test stands, transportation and handling equipment, advanced manufacturing tooling, and other ground systems.

What you will do

  • Create and maintain detail part and assembly models and drawings using PTC Creo Parametric 12 and Windchill PLM under direct guidance from senior designers
  • Support the development of Model-Based Definition (MBD) datasets including 3D annotations, semantic PMI, and combined specification states per ASME Y14.41
  • Assist with mechanical/structural design layouts including steel frameworks, platforms, access structures, and custom machine assemblies
  • Support fluid system design including piping routes, tubing assemblies, and component layouts using Creo Piping extension
  • Contribute to electrical system design including enclosure assemblies, cable tray routing, and panel layouts as the team transitions from AutoCAD Electrical to Creo
  • Prepare design layouts, modify existing designs, and assist in identifying design discrepancies
  • Review engineering drawings and designs to ensure alignment with established specifications, drafting standards, and standard drawing notes
  • Apply company, program, and industry standards (ASME Y14.100, Y14.5, Y14.41) to all product definition data
  • Support Windchill product structure organization, revision management, and change notice workflows
  • Leverage AI-assisted design tools and automation capabilities to improve productivity and drawing quality
  • Implement engineering and manufacturing standard methodologies to achieve a balanced approach to cost, schedule, and performance
  • Participate in drawing check activities during release reviews under senior oversight

Minimum qualifications

  • 2-year AS degree in Computer Aided Drafting, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Drafting and Design Technology, or equivalent technical certification
  • Foundational experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Knowledge of designing or drafting for aerospace, automotive, marine, or applicable structures, mechanical systems, fluid systems, or electrical systems
  • Mechanical design and integration skills using 3D parametric modeling software
  • Familiarity with applicable drafting standards (ASME Y14 series)
  • Ability to read and interpret general intent of processes, procedures, work instructions, and technical specifications
  • Strong bias to learn and adapt to new tools and technologies
  • Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion

  • Experience using PTC Creo Parametric (any version) or Pro/ENGINEER
  • Exposure to Windchill or similar PLM/PDM configuration control tools
  • Interest in or exposure to Model-Based Definition (MBD) and 3D annotation practices
  • Familiarity with large assembly management techniques in parametric CAD
  • Exposure to piping or tubing design concepts or fluid system components
  • Exposure to electrical design tools (AutoCAD Electrical, Creo Cabling, or similar)
  • Interest in leveraging AI tools to enhance CAD productivity and automate repetitive tasks
  • Bias for design for manufacturing and assembly (DFMA)
  • Hands-on product development interest or maker/fabrication background
