Role Overview

This position is part of Blue Origin Engines, focusing on design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight applications.

As a Controls and System Analysis (CSA) Engineer, you will impact the development and maturation of Liquid Propulsion Rocket Engine (LPRE) control algorithms and simulation models. You will interface and coordinate with engine controller hardware, engine controller software, hardware in the loop (HIL), and vehicle control/simulation teams. You will contribute to engine control and system analysis technology roadmap and strategy formulation, and provide technical and professional mentorship for junior team members.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engine and avionics systems engineers to develop and verify engine and control system performance
  • Collaborate with avionics software engineers to develop and verify high level software requirements
  • Develop and mature control, estimation, and system fault detection algorithms
  • Develop and mature verification compliance reports for engine and control system
  • Develop and mature engine and control system transient models and analyses
  • Establish and mature standard work instructions for transient modeling and analysis methods

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in relevant engineering subject area (aerospace or mechanical desired)
  • 2+ years of experience in transient system modeling and control algorithm development for complex engineering systems
  • Proficiency in MATLAB and Simulink
  • Interpersonal skills and proven track record working on a team
  • Ability to learn and work with technical guidance on engine modeling, simulation, and control system analysis, and balance several tasks at one time
  • Ability to clearly communicate technical analysis results to other teams and leadership

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with MATLAB Embedded Coder
  • Basic knowledge of Git / GitLab
  • Familiarity with DO-178C, DO-330, and DO-331
  • Basic configuration management experience
  • Familiarity with MATLAB Test Manager
  • Experience with hydraulic analysis and control design of hydraulic systems

Compensation

Base pay range for WA applicants: $134,961.00 - $188,945.40. Other site ranges may differ.
