About this role
You will develop and execute design of avionics electronic hardware used to operate rocket engines in space. This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, focused on designing, developing, manufacturing, and testing engines and propulsion systems for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.
What you will do
- Design analog instrumentation measurement circuits that measure environmental and combustion conditions of rocket engines
- Design actuator circuits for solenoids and electromechanical servo systems
- Develop circuits, boards, and rugged electronic hardware assemblies across the entire product lifecycle: concept, requirements, design, prototyping, verification testing, and production release
- Interpret systems engineering and quality requirements as they apply to electrical product development
- Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis
- Manage design schedules for avionics subsystems
- Present program status and issues to stakeholders
- Identify root cause failure modes using fault tree and fishbone methodologies
What you need
- B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 2+ years of professional experience in electronics hardware development
- Demonstrated technical leadership guiding project teams, making critical design decisions, and mentoring junior engineers
- Direct hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, analysis, test, and debug
- Expert knowledge of Op-Amp circuits for instrumentation measurements including scaling, active filters, and current to voltage conversion
- Knowledge of signal integrity, power conversion, grounding, and board layout principles
- Experience with data anomaly review and system troubleshooting in lab or test environments
- Highly organized with excellent written and verbal technical skills
- Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
Valuable assets
- Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field
- Expertise designing electronics in space radiation environments
- Proven expertise crafting high-reliability, safety-critical Class 3 board assemblies
- Understanding of mechanical packaging of avionics in harsh environmental conditions
- Knowledge of EMI issues in precision analog or high voltage design
- Experience with electric motor drive circuits (EMA)
- Proficiency with CAD layout tools for sophisticated printed circuit boards
- Experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors
- Exposure to aerospace flight hardware design aligned with DO-254
- Experience developing high-reliability, radiation-tolerant flight hardware for prolonged space exposure
Compensation and location
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $107,136.00 to $149,990.40 annually. Other site ranges may differ.
