Blue Origin Engines designs, develops, manufactures, and tests engines and propulsion systems for the next generation of rockets serving commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight missions.

As an Electrical Design Engineer III, you will develop and execute design of avionics electronic hardware used to operate rocket engines in space. You will work within a collaborative, tightly-knit development team committed to building high-reliability, safety-critical avionics solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Electrical design of analog instrumentation measurement circuits measuring environmental and combustion conditions of rocket engines
  • Electrical design of actuator circuits for solenoids and electromechanical servo systems
  • Interpret systems engineering and quality requirements as they apply to electrical product development
  • Develop circuits, boards, and rugged electronic hardware assemblies across the entire product life-cycle: concept, requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification testing, and release to production
  • Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Manage design schedules of avionics subsystem
  • Present program status and issues routinely
  • Identify root cause failure modes using fault tree and fishbone methodologies

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 5+ years of professional experience in electronics hardware development
  • Demonstrated technical leadership guiding project teams, making critical design decisions, and mentoring junior engineers
  • Direct hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, analysis, test, and debug
  • Expert knowledge of Op-Amp circuits applied to instrumentation measurements including scaling, active filters, and current to voltage conversion
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power conversion, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Experience with data anomaly review and system troubleshooting in a lab or test environment
  • Highly organized teammate with excellent technical skills (written and verbal)
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate degree (or higher) in related engineering or technical field
  • Expertise designing electronics in a space radiation environment
  • Proven expertise crafting high-reliability, safety-critical, Class 3 board assemblies
  • Understanding of mechanical packaging of avionics in harsh environmental conditions
  • Knowledge of EMI issues related to precision analog or high voltage design
  • Experience with electric motor drive circuits (EMA)
  • Proficiency using CAD layout tools to craft sophisticated printed circuit boards and experience with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors
  • Exposure to designing safety or critically important aerospace flight hardware aligned with DO-254
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability and radiation-tolerant flight hardware for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments

Compensation and Benefits

Base pay range for Washington applicants: $130,706.00 - $182,987.70. Other site ranges may differ.
