About This Role

This is a design leadership position within Blue Origin Engines, where you will develop and execute avionics electronic hardware design while directing a small team. You will work on safety-critical systems that power the next generation of rockets for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

What You Will Do

  • Interpret systems engineering and quality requirements as they apply to electrical product development
  • Develop circuits, boards, and rugged electronic hardware assemblies across the entire product lifecycle, including concept, requirements definition, design, prototyping, verification testing, and release to production
  • Manage design schedules and direct the activities of a small team
  • Support risk analyses, failure modes effects and criticality analyses (FMECA), design for test/manufacture/cost (DFx), and root-cause analysis of test discrepancies
  • Identify root cause failure modes using fault tree and fishbone methodologies
  • Routinely present program status and issues

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 10 years of professional experience, with 8+ years of direct experience in electronics hardware development
  • Direct hands-on experience with analog and digital circuit design, analysis, test, and debug
  • Knowledge of signal integrity, power, grounding, and general board layout principles
  • Experience with data anomaly review and system troubleshooting in a lab or test environment
  • Excellent technical skills, both written and verbal

Desired Qualifications

  • Graduate degree in related engineering or technical field
  • Expertise designing electronics in a space radiation environment
  • Proven expertise crafting high-reliability, safety-critical Class 3 board assemblies
  • Understanding of mechanical packaging of avionics in harsh environmental conditions
  • Power conversion electronics as applied to controlling BLDC motors
  • Knowledge of electric motor design and construction
  • Knowledge of EMI issues related to high voltage design
  • Proficiency using CAD layout tools to craft sophisticated printed circuit boards, and experience working with external board manufacturing and assembly vendors
  • Exposure to designing safety or critically important aerospace flight hardware aligned with DO-254
  • Exposure to development of high-reliability, radiation-tolerant flight hardware intended for prolonged exposure to extreme space environments

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation for Washington applicants: $156,802.00 to $219,522.45 annually. Other site ranges may differ.
