About the Role
This role is part of Blue Origin's Avionics & Control Products (ACP) organization within the Engine Business Unit. You will support the design, development, manufacturing, integration, and testing of avionics and control hardware, including electrical test equipment and harness/power/grounding infrastructure.
You will apply strong technical skills and a quality-first mindset to support safe, repeatable spaceflight. Your work will include hands-on assembly, rework execution, and increasingly owning technical deliverables such as troubleshooting, checkout, and hardware documentation.
What You Will Do
- Assemble prototype and flight-grade avionics assemblies, including electrical and mechanical component systems
- Solder and rework SMT and PCB assemblies down to 0201-sized components, including repairs, rework, and verification
- Develop and build lab circuits to support development, debug, and verification of electronic designs
- Build wire harness and cable assemblies for lab use and test fixtures
- Perform PCB level testing, checkout, troubleshooting, and validation of electronic assemblies
- Create and release drawings and technical documentation for control systems
- Maintain configuration control of individual circuit card designs
- Participate in problem investigation and root cause analysis, implementing corrective actions
- Process non-conformances and complete associated documentation
- Support integration of flight avionics units and test equipment, interfacing to operator consoles and test assets
Work Arrangements
- Scheduled for 40 hours per week, with additional weekdays and overtime as necessary
- Travel may be required to rocket engine test sites based on program need, but not expected frequently
Minimum Qualifications
- 5 or more years of industry experience with electrical and electro-mechanical assemblies or equivalent hands-on avionics and test experience in aerospace environments
- Basic electronics theory (voltage, current, resistance) and practical application during assembly and test
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and mechanical drawings, and follow written assembly procedures
- Experience with ESD prevention and controls
- Demonstrated proficiency assembling and handling small electrical and mechanical parts
- Proficiency using standard electronic lab test and troubleshooting equipment (power supplies, handheld multimeters, common debug tools)
- Ability to assemble, test, and rework cable and harness assemblies
- Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills, attention to detail, and commitment to continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to thrive in a tightly integrated team environment
- Ability to lift 25 lbs
- Basic computer literacy and familiarity with common tools such as Microsoft Office
Preferred Qualifications
- Current or expired certifications in IPC-A-610 (PCBA inspection), IPC/WHMA-A-620 (harness assembly), J-STD-001 (soldering), or IPC-7711/7721 (PCBA rework)
- Experience building avionics labs and/or electrical ground support equipment and test assets for electrical equipment testing
- Working knowledge of digital and analog circuits, computers, microprocessors, and networks
- Experience with modeling and drafting using tools such as Creo or Zuken
- Experience with potting
- Experience working in R&D environments in space, aviation, automotive, medical, or similar high-precision domains
- Familiarity with basic PCB layout tools
Compensation and Benefits
Base pay range for Washington applicants: $85,049 to $119,067.90. Other site ranges may differ.
