Role Overview

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. As an Engineering Operations lead on the Core Avionics Team, you will improve engineering cadence, vertical integrations, and hardware deliveries, with primary focus on electronics design and manufacturing operations. You'll manage program functions across the entire product lifecycle from research and electronics design through final flight hardware manufacturing and production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain IPT operating cadence and report key performance metrics (technical, cost, schedule, risk) with focus on electronics design milestones and manufacturing readiness levels
  • Instrument and monitor electronics design and manufacturing process health within IPT workflows; identify improvements to reduce cycle time
  • Integrate Core Avionics Group into overall program operations, ensuring electronics manufacturing dependencies are properly sequenced
  • Generate reporting tools for IPT operations health including design review status, manufacturing yield data, and test results for Weekly Business Reviews and Program Management Reviews
  • Support agile product planning with emphasis on electronics design sprints and manufacturing capacity planning
  • Coach teams in self-organization and electronics design-to-manufacturing handoff processes
  • Lead Tiger Teams for electronics design challenges and manufacturing issues
  • Define, monitor, and track IPT deliverables with detailed electronics hardware configuration and manufacturing specification tracking
  • Coordinate with internal and external electronics manufacturing and test facilities for on-time delivery of flight-ready avionics hardware
  • Coordinate electronics design reviews, manufacturing readiness assessments, and supplier qualification activities
  • Mentor team members and embody Blue Origin leadership principles

Required Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
  • 7+ years experience in electronics design and manufacturing operations in highly technical multidisciplinary engineering development projects, including managing requirements, priorities, scope, schedule, and cost
  • Proven experience managing electronics hardware development from concept through production, including PCB design, component selection, and manufacturing process optimization
  • Direct experience with electronics manufacturing processes including SMT assembly, through-hole assembly, conformal coating, potting, and final test procedures
  • Experience with electronics design tools (Altium, Cadence, or similar) and manufacturing execution systems (MES)
  • Experience collecting and synthesizing quantitative and qualitative information from multiple partners and translating data into electronics manufacturing requirements and build-ready tools and processes
  • Experience with electronics supply chain management, including component sourcing, supplier qualification, and obsolescence management
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management, and Cost Account Management such as EVM as applied to electronics hardware programs
  • Experience with Agile project management and Jira software in electronics development environments
  • Experience with MS Project, P6 Primavera, or similar for electronics manufacturing scheduling
  • Experience managing electronics manufacturing subcontracts with suppliers, contract manufacturers, and component suppliers
  • Knowledge of electronics testing methodologies including functional test, environmental stress screening, and qualification testing
  • Ability to work collaboratively in fast-paced dynamic environments while providing technical solutions to complex electronics design and manufacturing problems
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in a technical field, MBA degree, or equivalent experience
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
  • Experience managing electronics programs for complex products such as avionics systems, power electronics, motor controllers, or embedded systems
  • Familiarity with developing electronics technology from design maturity through flight hardware qualification
  • Deep familiarity with aerospace electronics design requirements such as thermal management, vibration/shock resistance, EMI/EMC compliance, radiation tolerance, and electrical grounding/bonding
  • Experience with space-grade electronics components and qualification processes (MIL-STD, NASA standards)
  • Knowledge of electronics reliability engineering including FMEA, derating analysis, and life testing
  • Experience with electronics configuration management and change control processes
  • Familiarity with DO-254 (airborne electronics) or equivalent aerospace electronics standards
