This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, focused on design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems for commercial, civil, national security, and human spaceflight.

You will join multiple early-career Materials and Processes engineering positions specializing in special processes, welding/joining, additive manufacture, metallurgy, casting/forging, and related disciplines supporting liquid rocket engines. Your work will directly impact design and manufacturability of rocket engine hardware, lowering the cost of access to space.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and qualify materials and processes for liquid rocket engine applications
  • Work with design, manufacturing and process engineers to implement and optimize materials for performance and cost
  • Identify and apply mature state-of-the-art processes to manufacturing and develop process control documentation and quality assurance measures
  • Develop materials test plans, process and material evaluation/qualification
  • Own process and repair qualification across the development and production lifecycle
  • Identify and implement continuous improvement opportunities for special processes
  • Support day-to-day manufacturing through non-conformance disposition and manufacturing floor support

Minimum qualifications

  • Internship experience focused on materials and processes with emphasis on materials design, process development, implementation, and/or qualification
  • Exposure to definition and qualification of special processes such as welding, casting, forging, additive, or similar
  • Experience working with Ni-based alloys, Cu-based alloys, and/or other materials common in aerospace propulsion manufacturing
  • Ability to collect and analyze data and present results in a meaningful format

Preferred qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with materials and process development and qualification
  • In-depth understanding of materials/process relationships
  • Familiarity with a diverse range of manufacturing processes (additive, casting, forging) and their impact on joining techniques
  • Experience with failure and forensic analysis of aerospace or other complex hardware
  • Experience evaluating and interpreting NDT inspection results
  • Understanding of quality standards, industrial codes, and/or material specifications
