About the Role

You will join the Core Avionics group within the Lunar Permanence business unit, designing mechanical solutions for flight-critical avionics. This role covers the full design cycle of enclosures and assemblies that house electronic components in harsh space environments. You will report to the Core Avionics group and contribute to the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program.

What You Will Do

  • Design avionics enclosure solutions for performance and high reliability in harsh environments
  • Participate in the entire design cycle of flight and mission-critical avionics
  • Create 3D CAD models, assemblies, part drawings, installation drawings, and technical documentation
  • Conduct static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis
  • Collaborate with electrical engineering teams to incorporate printed circuit boards and interconnect systems
  • Support developmental trade studies and manage product design configurations through the lifecycle
  • Build and evaluate prototype assemblies; create assembly aids and test fixtures
  • Plan and conduct engineering tests, data reviews, and requirement validation
  • Review assembly instructions and support hardware builds
  • Disposition material defects with Production and Quality Engineering

Requirements

  • B.S. degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering
  • 5+ years designing ruggedized electronic enclosures, optical assemblies, or similar high-performance hardware
  • Experience with static structural, modal, random vibration, and thermal analysis
  • 3D CAD modeling (Creo preferred)
  • FEA tools (Ansys preferred)
  • GD&T implementation and analysis (ASME Y14.5)
  • Ability to be self-directed and balance multiple projects
  • Strong communication of design concepts and analysis results
  • Must be U.S. citizen, national, permanent resident, or lawfully admitted refugee/asylee

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with avionics, optics, sensors, motor controllers, displays, controls, or LiDAR packaging
  • Recent versions of Creo, Windchill, Ansys, Sherlock, or Icepack
  • Sigmadyne SigFit software
  • Fatigue analysis and fracture mechanics
  • Steinberg or Engelmeier solder fatigue methods
  • Aerospace structural analysis methods (Bruhn, Marks', Shigley, Steinberg, Roark's)
  • Environmental testing including vibration, shock, and thermal cycle
  • Bonded joint analysis
  • Optics standards per ANSI/OEOSC ISO 10110
  • Mentoring or training experience

Compensation

Colorado: $110,938 to $155,312.85 annually. Washington: $121,023 to $169,432.20 annually. Other site ranges may differ.

  • Travel not typically expected, but up to 15% as needed
