Flight Software Engineer III Verified today
About the Role
This position is part of Blue National Security, focused on launch and spacecraft systems for national security missions. The Mars Telecom Network will provide reliable, long-lived communications for Mars missions. You will work on complex, multi-system avionics and flight software that operates autonomously, far from Earth, for years. You'll engage across the full spacecraft lifecycle: concept and system definition through integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, and mission operations.
Your Responsibilities
- Independently design, develop, integrate, and test embedded avionics software for spacecraft subsystems in C and C++
- Implement and verify software requirements derived from system and subsystem specifications, maintaining traceability
- Develop multi-threaded, real-time software and the test environments needed to verify it
- Lead debugging of complex software and hardware/software integration issues, and support anomaly investigations and root cause analysis
- Define software interfaces with avionics, systems engineering, and other spacecraft subsystems
- Conduct design and code reviews, and contribute to development practices in an Agile, DevOps environment
- Communicate status and technical risks clearly to program and technical leadership
- Support integration, test campaigns, and mission readiness activities as needed
Minimum Qualifications
- B.S. degree or equivalent experience in computer, aerospace, or electrical engineering or a related field
- 5+ years of embedded software development and testing experience including multi-threaded programming and real-time systems, particularly in C/C++
- Demonstrated effective communication skills with program and technical leadership
- Experience in requirement implementation and verification
- Familiarity with Agile and DevOps processes and culture
- Ability to earn trust, maintain positive and professional relationships, and strengthen our culture of inclusion
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working multiple phases of spacecraft development and operations, such as design, integration, verification, on-orbit checkout, mission operations, and anomaly resolution
- Experience working on multi-component, complex avionics for spacecraft, aircraft, or similar systems
- Experience working on multiple, concurrent product baselines (product line engineering)
- Experience in autonomy, sequencers, state machines, and/or fault management using NPR 7150.2, DO-178, or other safety- or mission-critical software standards
- Understanding of spacecraft operations, subsystem functions, and their interfaces and common interactions
- Experience with embedded Linux or equivalent real-time operating systems
