Role Overview

As Flight Software Manager in the Lunar Permanence business unit, you will lead a team of software engineers developing safety-critical flight software for Blue Moon landers. You will work directly with NASA and National Team Partners on the Human Landing System (HLS) Sustaining Lunar Development (SLD) program to return humans to the Moon and establish permanent human presence beyond Earth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Produce and manage software engineers within the Lunar Permanence team
  • Ensure mission success of lunar vehicles' safety-critical, performant flight software
  • Engage proactively with subsystem leads and engineers across software and hardware disciplines
  • Guide the software team's technical decisions using stakeholder input and provide clear rationale
  • Coach, mentor, and provide feedback to direct reports
  • Manage stakeholder expectations to ensure the team avoids over-promising and under-delivering
  • Report to the Flight Software Integrated Product Lead

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, computer engineering, aeronautics, or related field with minimum 10 years relevant experience; OR Master's or PhD with minimum 8 years relevant experience
  • 5+ years experience in spaceflight or other safety-critical industries
  • 5+ years embedded systems software engineering
  • Proficiency in Jama or similar requirements management tool
  • Experience with Jira or similar activity management tool
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive professional relationships
  • Must be U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted as refugee or granted asylum

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with NPR 7150, DO-178, or similar standards
  • Experience with agile methodology
  • Experience with C, C++, or Rust
  • Experience with orbital vehicles or in-space systems

Compensation

Base pay range varies by location:

  • Colorado applicants: $148,103.00 - $207,343.50
  • Washington applicants: $161,567.00 - $226,193.10
