Fluid Mechanical Design Engineer III - Lunar Permanence Verified today
About this role
You will work to design, analyze, build, test, integrate, and operate fluids and propulsion subsystems for lunar landers. The Lunar Transporter demands uncompromising reliability in extreme environments. Your cryogenic systems will operate in deep space, lunar orbit, and on the lunar surface. You'll own the complete lifecycle of mission-critical hardware that directly enables lunar logistics and human exploration.
What you'll do
- Define and own requirements for lunar-specific cryogenic components, negotiate critical interfaces, and evaluate in-house and vendor solutions through rigorous first-order analysis
- Drive design reviews presenting detailed component designs to cross-functional teams and defend technical decisions
- Specify and procure optimal materials and components for lunar transporter missions
- Execute the full cycle from design refinement through build, test, and delivery
- Generate engineering drawings, P&IDs, and verification packages meeting lunar mission standards
- Conduct structural and fluid analyses using ANSYS, Thermal Desktop, Creo/ProEngineer in lunar thermal and vacuum environments
What you need
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field
- 8 or more years designing aerospace propulsion and cryogenic fluid systems, including tubing or piping architecture
- Expertise in cryogenic components (valves, regulators, pumps)
- Proficiency in cryogenic fluid system sizing analysis and component selection
- Expertise creating and interpreting P&IDs and fabrication drawings
- Experience in cryogenic fluid systems from concept through vehicle integration
- Experience in design for manufacturing best practices
Preferred qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master's or Ph.D.)
- Hands-on cryogenics experience
- Experience with space systems or extreme environment applications
- Mastery of Windchill and eBOM creation and usage
- Mastery of CREO Parametric Piping
- Knowledge of ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards
- Familiarity with piping fabrication methods, welding, and installation best practices
Employment details
