About the Role
This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, building sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface. You will work under a senior engineer accountable for the Reaction Control System (RCS) within the Gas and Thrusters team. You own design, analyses, procurement, installation, and test of RCS components and sub-assemblies.
You will be responsible for valves, bottles, filters, sensors, piping, and other fluid equipment. Your team will size, select materials, and analyze components for structural integrity due to pressure, vibration, fracture, and fatigue. You will work with suppliers and Blue Origin groups to identify components and support procurement, fabrication, and installation. You will manage the project plan including cost and schedule for your sub-assembly.
The position works directly on the Transfer Stage Vehicle at the Rocket Park Facility in Florida, on the ground floor of operations and buildup.
Responsibilities
- Fluids sub-assembly design and development, including developing specifications, procuring components, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred), performing trade studies, and analyzing test data.
- Interpreting and generating Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
- Design and create specifications for fluid and gas components including solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
- Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
- Design and analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
- Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
- 3 or more years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
- Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
- Knowledge and experience with hypergolic systems.
- Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
- Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
- Proven understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
- Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components and systems.
- Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems including tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, and welding.
- Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communications skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
