Join Blue Origin's Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Moon landers and sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport to the lunar surface.

This role reports to a senior engineer and owns the helium system within the Gas and Thrusters team for a lunar vehicle. You will be responsible for design, analyses, procurement, installation, and test of components and sub-assembly systems for the helium subsystem, including valves, bottles, filters, sensors, piping, and other fluids equipment. You will size and select materials, and analyze components for structural integrity due to pressure, vibration, fracture, and fatigue. You will work with suppliers and Blue Origin groups to identify components and support procurement, fabrication, and installation. You will also manage the project plan for your sub-assembly, including cost and schedule.

You will work directly on our Transfer Stage Vehicle on the ground floor of operations and buildup at our Rocket Park Facility in Florida.

Responsibilities

  • Fluids sub-assembly design and development, including developing specifications and procuring components, designing parts and assemblies in CAD (Creo preferred), performing trade studies, and analyzing test data. Interpret and generate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) using AutoCAD.
  • Design and create specifications for fluid and gas components such as solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, and instrumentation.
  • Develop and maintain interface definitions between fluid systems and other vehicle subsystems.
  • Design and analyze custom components for fluid, thermal, and structural applications.
  • Perform component verification of internally and externally sourced components to company standards.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or equivalent.
  • 5 or more years of proven experience in the design of aerospace fluid or mechanical systems.
  • Experience in 3D CAD programs (Creo preferred).
  • Knowledge and experience with gas systems.
  • Proficiency in crafting engineering drawings with GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
  • Experience performing flow and pressure calculations as well as structural and thermal analysis of fluid systems.
  • Proven understanding of fluid components such as valves, tubing, and pressurized hardware.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components and systems.
  • Knowledge of standard installation and fabrication methods of fluid systems (tube stock, fittings, connections, fasteners, welding, etc.).
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field.
  • Hands-on experience building and testing mechanical assemblies or pressurized components and systems.

Compensation

Base pay range for Washington applicants is $121,023.00 to $169,432.20. Other site ranges may differ.
