About the role

Multiple positions available across Blue Origin's business units. You will be matched with an engineering team based on your skills and current business needs.

Responsibilities

Design production, development, test, integration, and advanced manufacturing tooling and equipment for the Blue Engines, Lunar, and New Glenn business units.
Integrate concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
Interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) when creating drawings.
Handle technical design challenges for assembly fixtures, material handlers, rotisseries, test fixtures, structural weldments, environmental chambers, and custom machines.
Collaborate closely with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to achieve optimal cradle-to-grave metrics: safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability, life, and maintenance/refurbishment.
Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, proof testing, and commissioning of custom tooling with support.
Set, implement, and maintain schedules and budgets to ensure project completion.

Qualifications

Minimum BS degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or relevant engineering field.
Must have earned degree within the last year and able to start by Fall 2026.
Basic understanding of design fundamentals: requirements identification, material selection, input definition, form factors, interface definition, environmental considerations.
Basic proficiency in 3D CAD programs (Creo Pro/E preferred) including drawing creation.
Basic proficiency in strength and mechanics of materials.
Basic proficiency in structural analysis including free-body diagrams and hand calculations.
Basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis (ANSYS preferred).
Relevant internship, co-op, or hands-on experience demonstrating technical skills and leadership qualities.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team on rapid development programs.
Flexible and adaptable mindset with self-driven approach and ability to seek requirements with minimal direction.

Desired experience

Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA), including taking products from development design to rate production.
Familiarity with mechanical equipment or systems design.
Understanding of common manufacturing processes: CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheet-metal bending, lifting/rigging, assembly, inspection.
Familiarity with industry standards: ASME BTH-1, aluminum design manual, AISC.
Experience with custom machine design: motors, actuators, linear rails/actuators, pneumatics, hydraulics, bearings.
Experience with Creo and Windchill CAD/PDM systems.
Experience with NX and Teamcenter CAD/PDM systems.
Experience with analysis packages: ANSYS Workbench, FEMAP Pre/Post processing, NASTRAN Solver, NX Advance Simulation.

Locations

Primary locations: Seattle WA, Huntsville AL, Cape Canaveral FL. Blue Origin prioritizes co-locating early career engineers with their team and relevant hardware.

Compensation

Base pay range for WA applicants: $81,313.00 - $113,837.85. Other site ranges may differ.
