About this role
This position is part of Blue Origin Operations, supporting Integrated Supply Chain, Test Operations, Safety, Quality, and Mission Assurance across all facilities.
You will provide structural analysis support for ground support equipment (GSE) and manufacturing tooling, including machining fixtures, assembly fixtures, and mechanical systems. Your work will include strength assessments, design reviews, and structural design consultations to internal teams and external partners.
What you will do
- Perform strength assessments using classical analysis techniques and finite element analysis (FEA) for tooling and GSE
- Document and review stress analyses to support engineering drawing release and related documentation
- Mentor tooling designers on best practices in stress, stability, and fracture analysis
- Provide technical guidance on design concepts, including risk, cost, and performance trade-offs
- Support cross-functional teams with design development, analysis, and trade studies
- Lead conceptual and detailed analysis of tooling and equipment for manufacture and assembly of structural components, mechanical/actuated systems, and hydraulic and fluid systems
- Serve as technical point of contact and responsible party for vendor-developed tooling projects
What you need
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (minimum)
- 2+ years of experience analyzing ground support equipment (GSE) or tooling in aerospace, automotive, or similar industry
- Experience creating and validating finite element models (FEMs) using Ansys or NX Simulation with Nastran
- Proven FEA experience with 1D, 2D and 3D elements, including weldments and machined parts
- Proficiency in generating free-body diagrams to calculate internal loads and reaction forces
- Extensive experience analyzing steel and aluminum, including machining fixtures and weldments using hand calculations
- Proficiency in bolted joint hand calculations (bolt preload, joint stiffness, shear-tension interaction, insert pull-out)
- Proficiency in welded joint hand calculations (required size, length, effective throat, direct and resultant stress, failure modes)
- Familiarity with applicable structural codes (AISC-360, ASME B30 & 31, ASME BTH-1)
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
Preferred qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) licensure
- Proficiency with Creo and/or Siemens NX software
- Strong customer focus and excellent communication skills
- Demonstrated track record of successful project delivery
- Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams
- Self-motivated with ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- Ability to clearly communicate analytical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
Compensation and location
Base Pay Range for WA applicants: $99,201.00 - $138,880.35. Other site ranges may differ.
Greater Seattle Area, A-shift. Multiple positions available. Relocation provided.
