Blue Origin · 2 Locations · Electronics · first seen 2026-10-02

About the role

This position is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin's Blue Moon landers and related products. You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team developing radar systems for Blue Origin's lunar spacecraft. Your work will span from early concepts to product specifications and integration with the flight vehicle.

You will collaborate closely with the guidance, navigation, and control (GN&C) team to integrate these components with the broader GN&C subsystem. The role requires coordination with internal stakeholders, adjacent product teams, and suppliers.

What you will do

  • Design and simulate end-to-end systems to meet performance specifications such as range and signal-to-noise ratio
  • Design and validate signal processing algorithms for detection, tracking, RF calibration, and parameter estimation
  • Support Matlab/Simulink code generation for signal processing and filtering
  • Analyse algorithmic computational complexity and hardware resource needs (FPGA fabric, memory/IO bandwidth)
  • Assess signal-to-noise ratio, clutter ratio, signal sensitivity, and RF nonlinearity calibration
  • Work with hardware engineers to select devices: FPGA, ADC/DAC, DDR3/4, NOR flash
  • Support hardware bring-up and design verification alongside EE engineers
  • Implement RTL logic and FPGA prototyping

Minimum requirements

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related field with 5+ years of DSP experience
  • Experience developing and implementing DSP algorithms on FPGA and/or embedded processor
  • Experience simulating end-to-end systems to meet required performance specifications such as link budget
  • Proficiency with Matlab/Simulink or equivalent modeling environment
  • Experience designing, choosing, and optimizing DSP algorithms for radar or other relevant sensors
  • Proficiency with IEEE 802.3, XAUI, PCIe, JESD204, I2C, SPI interfaces
  • Proficiency writing RTL in Verilog/SystemVerilog/VHDL (SystemVerilog desired)
  • Strong understanding of FPGA design concepts, CDC, constraint definition, STA, and timing closure
  • Proficiency with FPGA development tools such as Xilinx Vivado, Intel Quartus
  • Proficiency with ModelSim/QuestaSim or equivalent simulators
  • Experience writing testbenches using techniques such as UVM/OVM, SV Assertion, and/or functional/code coverage analysis

Preferred requirements

  • 10+ years of industry experience
  • PhD or master's degree in electrical engineering, mathematics, signal processing or related field
  • Experience with FMCW or CW radar/lidar signal processing
  • Proficiency with scripting languages such as Perl, Python, or Tcl
  • Experience with common on-chip bus protocols such as AMBA (AXI, AHB, APB), PCIe, JESD204B, I2C, (Q)SPI
  • Experience with optoelectronic sensors
  • Experience with space applications and radiation environment
