Blue Origin · 5 Locations · Mechanical · first seen 2026-10-09

Role Overview

You will support the Zero-g Propellant Management Product Team within the Lunar Permanence business unit, developing sustainable infrastructure for crew and cargo transport from Earth to the lunar surface. Your focus is cryogenic propellant management hardware design, modeling, and drafting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, modify, and release engineering models, assemblies, and drawings in Creo Parametric for cryogenic propellant management hardware including valves, manifolds, tubing, pressure vessels, and support structures.
  • Generate fabrication and assembly drawings to Blue Origin drafting standards and GD&T requirements (ASME Y14.5).
  • Apply Model Based Definition (MBD) practices, embedding PMI (datums, notes, finish callouts) on models where MBD is the controlled deliverable.
  • Create Interface Control Models and Interface Control Drawings for cryogenic fluid system hardware.
  • Support hardware ownership from definition through delivery, contributing to design, verification, and integration for assigned components.
  • Participate in design reviews and model/drawing checks to ensure conformance with engineering, safety, and program standards before release.
  • Deliver geometry to analysis teams to support Finite Element Models.
  • Track internal and external procurements and hardware dependencies to support subsystem delivery schedules.
  • Support vendor RFQs, fabrication, inspection, and proof-test packages by producing BOMs, weldment details, machined-part details, inspection drawings, and as-built redlines.
  • Work within formal configuration management and engineering change processes using Windchill.
  • Participate in cryogenic technology development meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Escalate ambiguous or high-risk problems to senior engineers as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  • B.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical subject area.
  • 5 or more years of experience in cryogenic fluids and mechanical systems/components.
  • Experience supporting the development, integration, or certification of aerospace systems for flight.
  • Experience with fluid/gas components (solenoid valves, directional valves, manifolds, regulators, pressure vessels, instrumentation).
  • Experience with Cryogenic Fluid Management techniques and technologies.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Creo Parametric for parts, assemblies, weldments, and drawings.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and ability to apply it to fabricated, machined, and welded fluid system hardware.
  • Experience working within formal configuration management/engineering change/release processes (CN, ECO, ECN, or equivalent).
  • Solid grasp of common manufacturing materials, processes, and tolerance/stack-up analysis sufficient to produce manufacturable drawings.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • M.S. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related technical subject area.
  • Human-rated space vehicle experience.
  • Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience (ANSYS preferred).
  • Experience with upper stages and spacecraft.
  • Experience with the entire lifecycle of a propulsion and fluid system.
  • Experience with Windchill PDM in production environment including workflow, revisioning, and BOM management.
  • Experience with Model Based Definition (MBD) and PMI authoring.
  • Experience drafting structural weldments to AWS D1.1/D17.1 including weld symbol literacy and weld-prep detailing.
  • Background in DFM/DFA principles as applied to CAD design choices.
  • Prior aerospace, defense, or other high-reliability industry experience.

Work Arrangement

  • Relocation provided.
  • Travel expected up to 25% of the time.
