About the role
You will join Blue Origin Operations on Florida's Space Coast to support the industrialization of lunar spacecraft. You will lead the design and implementation of efficient manufacturing systems, ensure rigorous quality control throughout production, and optimize supply chain logistics. You will collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams to accelerate development and manufacturing of the Transporter vehicle.
What you will own
- Support the industrialization of new products in areas such as solar arrays, integration and test, avionics, and structures.
- Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), design for test (DFT), key to building reliable vehicles for space exploration.
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes that support Blue Origin's mission.
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans.
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods, such as composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, and advanced assembly.
- Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and develop corrective actions that enhance reliability and performance.
- Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001).
- Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment.
- Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction.
- Gain expertise in at least one key specialty area (solar arrays, integration and test, build flow/sequencing, avionics, structures, etc.).
Position details
- Shift: A, Mon-Thurs (5am-3:30pm)
- Location: Space Coast, FL (Astra facility)
- Travel: Up to 10% for training and support activities
- Relocation: Available
- Must be able to work second shift with flexibility to move shifts as needed.
You must have
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (or other relevant field) from an accredited university
- 3+ years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering
- 3+ years of experience creating English work instructions
- U.S. citizenship, national status, permanent resident (Green Card), or lawful refugee/asylum status
You might also have
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field
- Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification
- Familiarity with AS9100 and ISO 9001 standards
- Manufacturing experience in aerospace or high-reliability industries, with expertise in launch vehicle or spacecraft thermal protective systems, cryogenic insulation (LH2/LOX), composite manufacturing for thermal structures, or high-rate production lines for aerospace soft goods
- Strong expertise in DFM and DFA, including transition from development to production
- Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, FMEA, and common manufacturing processes (CNC, machining, welding, sheetmetal, assembly)
- Hands-on aerospace assembly and integration experience, especially with mechanisms, tubing, harnesses, and structures
- Experience designing and commissioning tooling and fixtures
- Familiarity with advanced metrology (CMM, laser scanning) and manufacturing automation
- Proficiency with PLM/PDM/MRP systems (Windchill, Teamcenter)
- Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) and BOM reconciliation
- Support of Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and Interface Control Models (ICMs)
- Cleanroom environment experience (ISO 8 preferred)
- New Product Introduction (NPI) or production transition involvement
- Project management methodologies knowledge
- Ability to mentor and provide technical leadership
