About This Role
Join Blue Origin Operations as a Manufacturing Engineer supporting Lunar Mission Operations. You will lead the design and implementation of efficient manufacturing systems for the Transporter vehicle, ensure stringent quality control throughout production, and optimize supply chain logistics. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline operations, reduce costs, and enhance production timelines.
Position Details
- Shift A: Monday to Thursday, 5am to 3:30pm
- Location: Space Coast, FL (Astra facility)
- Relocation: Available
- Travel: Up to 10% for training and support activities
Key Responsibilities
- Support industrialization of new products in solar arrays, integration and test, avionics, and structures
- Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT)
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods such as composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, and advanced assembly
- Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and develop corrective actions
- Ensure all work aligns with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment
- Identify and complete opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction
- Gain expertise in at least one key specialty area including solar arrays, integration and test, build flow/sequencing, avionics, or structures
- Collaborate closely with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (or relevant field) from an accredited university
- 5 or more years of experience in manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering
- 3 or more years creating English work instructions
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Must be able to work second shift with flexibility to move shifts as needed and work extended hours if required
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field
- Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification
- Familiarity with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or high-reliability industries, with expertise in high performance aerospace soft goods or precision textile assemblies
- Experience with flat-pattern development, precision cutting technologies for fabric materials, manual and automated sewing machines, and composite manufacturing processes as applied to textile assemblies
- Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA)
- Working knowledge of engineering fundamentals including GD&T, tolerance/stack-up analysis, FMEA, and common manufacturing processes (CNC machining, manual mills/lathes, welding, sheetmetal, lifting/rigging, inspection, assembly)
- Hands-on experience with assembly and integration of aerospace vehicles and subsystems involving mechanisms, tubing, harnesses, and structural systems
- Experience designing, building, and commissioning tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly, and/or testing
- Familiarity with advanced metrology (CMM, laser scanning) and manufacturing automation
- Proficiency with PLM/PDM/MRP systems, including Windchill and Teamcenter
- Experience with Bill of Materials (BOM) and BOM reconciliation for complex assemblies
- Ability to support requirements generation in Integrated Product Teams (IPT) and assist with Interface Control Models (ICMs)
- Hands-on experience in cleanroom environments (ISO 8 preferred)
- Prior involvement in New Product Introduction (NPI) or transition to production
- Working knowledge of project management methodologies
- Ability to mentor and provide technical leadership to engineers and technicians
- Strong verbal and written communication skills with emphasis on collaboration and customer satisfaction
