The Role
Join Blue Origin Operations as a Manufacturing Engineer focused on lunar solar array production. You will lead the design and implementation of efficient manufacturing systems, ensure stringent quality control throughout production, and optimize supply chain logistics. This role is based at Lunar Plant 2 on Florida's Space Coast, working the A shift (Monday-Thursday, 5am-3:30pm) with potential travel up to 10% for training and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Support industrialization of new products in solar arrays, integration and test, avionics, and structures
- Contribute to design for manufacturability (DFM), design for assembly (DFA), and design for test (DFT)
- Translate engineering requirements into robust, repeatable manufacturing processes
- Collaborate with design engineering, quality assurance, supply chain, and production teams
- Develop and maintain manufacturing documentation including work instructions, process flow diagrams, tool designs, and inspection plans
- Evaluate and implement new manufacturing technologies and methods such as composites, precision machining, additive manufacturing, and advanced assembly
- Support root cause analysis of process or product non-conformances and develop corrective actions
- Ensure all work aligns with applicable quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Participate in process FMEAs, risk assessments, and validation of new production lines and equipment
- Identify opportunities for efficiency gains and cost reduction
- Gain expertise in at least one key specialty area such as solar arrays, integration and test, build flow, avionics, or structures
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university
- 3+ years of experience in a manufacturing, industrial, or process engineering role
- 3+ years of experience creating English work instructions
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
- Must be able to work second shift and have flexibility to move shifts as needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering field
- Lean Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification
- Familiarity with quality and safety standards (AS9100, ISO 9001)
- Manufacturing engineering experience in aerospace or other high-reliability industries with expertise in assembly of photovoltaic solar panels for space applications, electronics assembly and test, component termination and soldering, harness assembly and installation, composite structure assembly, and adhesive bonding processes
- Proficiency in CAD and FEA-based analysis software such as Creo and ANSYS Workbench; experience with FEMAP, NASTRAN, NX Advanced Simulation, or ProE Simulate/Mechanica
- Demonstrated ability to perform detailed hand calculations, freebody diagram creation, and complex FEM/structural analysis
- Strong expertise in design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) including transition from development design to production
- Working knowledge of engineering fundamentals including GD&T, tolerance/stack-up analysis, FMEA, and common manufacturing processes such as CNC machining, manual mills and lathes, welding, sheetmetal, lifting and rigging, inspection, and assembly
