Role Overview

As an MLI Technician at Blue Origin, you will provide hands-on technical support to engineering, production, and manufacturing teams. Working from engineering drawings, schematics, and detailed work instructions, you will build and integrate prototype and production Multi-Layer Insulation. You will perform fit checks, tests, and assist in remedying machine malfunctions, ensuring all components meet rigorous quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Assemble and integrate subcomponents and final assemblies of all major structural, mechanical, and avionics systems according to engineering specifications.
• Configure production work areas with necessary tooling and equipment to ensure efficient workflow during high-rate manufacturing transitions.
• Operate precision calibrated tools such as torque wrenches and micrometers to maintain high safety and quality standards.
• Identify and implement continuous improvement initiatives for safety, efficiency, and productivity.
• Perform operational tests, troubleshooting, and fault isolation to ensure the integrity and reliability of assembled systems.
• Support the transition from development to production, performing preventative maintenance as needed.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas following 5S principles to promote safety and operational efficiency.

Work Schedule & Location

• Shifts available: A - Mon-Thurs (5:00 AM-3:30 PM), B - Mon-Thurs (3:00 PM-1:30 AM), C - Fri-Sun (5:00 AM-5:30 PM)
• Melbourne, FL
• Relocation authorized

Minimum Qualifications

• 0-3 years aerospace manufacturing, integration, or related field experience (Level I Technician); 3+ years (Level II); 5+ years (Level III); 8+ years (Sr Level).
• Hands-on experience with fabrication, assembly and spacecraft integration of fragile MLI films per specifications.
• Experience using hand tools including scissors, hollow punches, and various hand and power tools.
• Skilled in interpreting technical drawings, schematics, blueprints, harness wiring diagrams, and internal and external dimensions.
• Proficient in inspection tools such as rulers, calipers, micrometers, and depth gauges.
• Basic electrical test skills including use of DMMs and basic knowledge of voltage, current, and resistance.
• Experience with bonding adhesives, sealants and fasteners.
• Experience handling fragile spacecraft coverings.
• Familiar with working with and around ESD sensitive components.
• Capable of lifting 50 lbs and working at heights (work stands, ladders, lifts) and/or in confined spaces.
• Basic proficiency in computer usage, including Windows and Microsoft Office applications.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

• Industry certification, trade school training, and/or degree in related field.
• Experience with methods for integrating designs from drawings and schematics to meet product specifications.
• Knowledge of materials and process specifications.
• Automation systems troubleshooting and ability to diagnose and resolve faults in integrated systems by interpreting HMI alarms and monitoring PLC-controlled components.
• Industrial robot operation and safely operating, tending, and performing fault recovery on SCARA robots using a teach pendant.
• Precision dispense and material handling experience, including metered epoxy dispensers and handling contamination-sensitive materials.
• Machine vision and sensor familiarity, including basic adjustments to vision systems and troubleshooting machine sensors.
• Mechatronics aptitude and foundational understanding of how mechanical and electrical components work together.
• Meticulous quality and procedural discipline with rigorous attention to following complex work instructions and performing in-process quality checks.

Required for all positions: Blue's Standard Background Check. Additional checks may be required depending on role profile, including DBIDS background check if the role requires access to a military installation.
