About the role

You'll work as part of a small, cross-functional team responsible for lunar network, IT, and communications infrastructure. Your focus is hands-on support of critical IT equipment and prompt, effective technology support for teams building, launching, and operating lunar landers.

This is a mission-critical role with direct impact on Blue Origin's lunar program and the history of space exploration.

What you'll do

  • Configure, deploy, and maintain IT hardware including workstations, servers, hypervisors, switches, and printers
  • Lead design and implementation of configuration management solutions
  • Lead initiatives to enhance automation, improve deployment frequency, and reduce manual interventions
  • Support availability, reliability, performance, monitoring, backup, and security for infrastructure solutions
  • Configure, deploy, and maintain mission support systems including video and voice communications
  • Build robust, fault-tolerant on-premises infrastructure for data systems control and monitoring
  • Provide troubleshooting and diagnosis in mission-critical, time-sensitive situations
  • Create software and hardware deployment baselines in accordance with STIGs
  • Generate and update engineering drawings of system deployments and Interface Control Documents (ICDs)
  • Manage inventory of ground infrastructure, asset tracking, spares procurement, and deployment
  • Conduct regular audits of CI/CD pipelines for compliance with industry standards
  • Adapt to new work scope and provide secondary support to unique systems such as weather monitoring, fiber optics distribution, RF distribution, PKI, and datacenter facilities management

Required qualifications

  • US Citizen or Permanent Resident
  • B.S. degree in information systems or computer science, or equivalent practical experience
  • 6+ years professional IT experience minimum
  • Demonstrated ability in Systems Administration and DevOps engineering
  • Experience managing Linux and Windows server and desktop environments
  • Practical knowledge of standard network protocols (DHCP, DNS, NPS, SQL, SMTP, NFS, etc.)
  • Experience writing technical documentation and procedures
  • Experience managing Active Directory environments, including custom account creation and management automation
  • Hardware troubleshooting experience, ability to assemble and reconfigure workstation and server hardware
  • Experience managing web servers with basic proficiency in HTML, JavaScript, and SQL
  • Ability to climb ladders and work on elevated structures
  • Ability to lift and install heavy server and communications equipment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with Atlassian Confluence and JIRA (user and administration perspective)
  • Strong experience leading complex DevOps projects from inception to completion involving multiple stakeholders
  • Practical experience deploying and managing application security measures and cybersecurity compliance
  • Experience with AWS cloud computing
  • Building standardized Windows and Linux images with deployment tools and methodologies
  • Experience with industrial controls software and infrastructure
  • Knowledge of PKI, STIGs, disk encryption, and firewall administration
  • Familiarity with configuration management tools such as Ansible, Netbox, Puppet, Chef, or GitLab
